The Engineering Supervisor is tasked with establishing and overseeing the execution of preventive maintenance programs and personnel to enhance production line performance, alongside the scheduling and planning of maintenance activities aimed at cost reduction. You will have the chance to collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Accounting) on process, quality, and cost improvement initiatives, as well as in addressing significant challenges.

This position is part of the Engineering team and will be located in a designated area. The Supervisor will oversee technicians whose shifts commence in the evening. Shifts will span 12 hours. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the premier provider of seamlessly integrated diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Manage the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program for manufacturing equipment: Develop and document PM procedures, coordinate PM schedules, major projects, and equipment upgrades, and review the program to implement enhancements for improving manufacturing line efficiencies and maintenance department performance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide employee coaching, and address conflicts while implementing disciplinary measures when necessary. Oversee staffing to meet equipment maintenance requirements and coordinate hiring tasks.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for equipment procurement. Manage spare parts usage for manufacturing equipment and implement changes to enhance cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ensure all manufacturing areas and equipment are maintained in optimal condition. Monitor equipment and chart a course for continuous improvement of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), while also ensuring maintenance processes comply with Company, FDA, ISO, OSHA, and GMP regulations. Troubleshoot and resolve automation equipment issues.
The essential requirements of the job include:
  • High School diploma with 8+ years of experience OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant work experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment, including proficiency with hand tools and machine shop tooling.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design concepts and machinery: Familiarity with Electrical, Mechanical, and Electromechanical schematics, motors, pumps, vacuum systems, and hydraulics, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in maintenance or a technical field, supplemented by coursework in Supervisory and Communication skills, Good Manufacturing Practices, cost accounting, product quality, and excellent computer proficiency.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of Lean 5S Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with PLC and Control Systems.
  • Familiarity with Vision and Laser Systems.

The salary range for this role is competitive and reflective of the industry standards. This is the range that we believe is appropriate for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation may vary based on experience and qualifications.

This position is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay and shift differentials.
