The campaign will provide a foundation for critical research to ensure people and nature thrive together, build unparalleled education programs with families and partners, collect the world’s most precious objects, document the present while reflecting on the past, and reimagine the visitor experience both in-person and online. We are bringing the Smithsonian off the National Mall and across the country through dynamic programming and affiliate partnerships, creating access for all. The Smithsonian is also developing two new museums—the National Museum of the American Latino and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum. These museums will share the experiences and perspectives of Latinos and women across history and deepen our shared understanding of what it means to be American.  The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central advancement organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of Smithsonian initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support services to advancement offices across the Institution. The office engages with staff throughout the Smithsonian in accomplishing their goals. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Membership Systems Specialist works in the Office of Advancement for the Smithsonian Institution. This position delivers production and systems support for the Institution’s two new museums - the National Museum of the American Latino and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum. It offers the opportunity to work in partnership with a team of dedicated staff while directly serving a diverse group of membership programs. The Specialist runs production jobs to produce data for direct mail, telemarketing, text and online campaigns, regularly scheduled reports, data extracts, and data uploads. The incumbent troubleshoots and resolves membership systems issues by identifying causes, assisting with remedies, and advising on error prevention. This person serves as a programming specialist by reviewing specifications, writing simple programs, and creating and executing test plans as part of the development life cycle.  Collaborates with business users across Smithsonian Institution membership teams and developers to improve membership data, deliver regular and ad-hoc data sets and reports and identifies tasks that are repetitive and do not require review, participates in automation of those tasks. The incumbent serves as an in-house specialist on the membership portion of the Advancement CRM.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSThe successful applicant will have at least intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Experience working with complex Excel spreadsheets including pivot tables and data from multiple sources should be demonstrated in applicant materials.  Applicants must have experience with SQL, PL/SQL or TOAD and ETL tools to import/export data between applications. Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, C/C++/C# as well as SSIS, SSRS or Tableau is a plus. A background with fundraising databases including Ellucian Advance, Salesforce, Tessitura, or Raisers Edge is preferred. The position requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines with complete and accurate data while providing good customer service. Applicants should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Strong communication and customer service skills are required. Experience with membership, fundraising, non-profit organizations and/or database management preferred.
