Established in 1981, Van-Am Tool & Engineering has become a leading provider of high quality tooling, stamping, machining and fabrication services to a variety of industries and customers throughout the Midwest. The company also provides laser cutting, press braking, robotic welding, powder coat and wet paint solutions, and offers design and build services for projects of all sizes and complexities. In 2024, Van-Am added Van-Am Defense Systems in Waverly, IA to the Van-Am Family.

Your role as a Manufacturing Engineer

Van-Am Tool & Engineering is on the lookout for a dedicated Manufacturing Engineer to play a pivotal role in enhancing our manufacturing processes and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products. In this position, you'll leverage your strong knowledge of tool design and fabrication methods to evaluate manufacturing processes based on essential quality criteria, such as efficiency and speed. Your project management skills will be crucial as you develop and test both automated and manual systems while designing and installing equipment tailored to our production needs. You'll also organize and manage workflows, optimize facility layouts, and integrate various systems to enhance performance. A commitment to quality and proficiency in safety and environmental standards will be vital as you resolve production issues, train staff, and collaborate with a team of engineers and suppliers.

To thrive as a Manufacturing Engineer at Van-Am Tool & Engineering, candidates must possess a robust foundation in engineering principles and a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and tool design. Previous experience in a similar role is essential, as is familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques. A strong commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations will ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.

Proficiency in relevant software, such as CAD and MS Office, is crucial for effective design and documentation. Successful candidates will also exhibit exceptional project management skills, ensuring that timelines and objectives are met efficiently. Problem-solving abilities are a must, as you'll encounter various challenges that require innovative solutions.

Strong teamwork skills will allow for seamless collaboration with fellow engineers and stakeholders, while the flexibility to occasionally work late shifts is vital to accommodate production needs. A degree in Engineering is required, with a post-graduate degree being a distinct advantage. Additionally, experience operating in MRP systems and creating work orders will further enhance your effectiveness in this role.
