Primary Function of Position

In this role you will support the MRS Volunteer Program Supervisor in recruiting, training, and matching volunteers from faith communities and the broader community. The Specialist is also responsible for assisting the MRS Volunteer Program Supervisor in developing volunteer positions and opportunities based on the needs of refugee clients. Additionally, the Specialist acts as a liaison with Migration and Refugee Services staff to address volunteer and client needs.


Major Position Responsibilities

  1. Volunteer Onboarding and Training: Manage the onboarding of all MRS volunteers and assist the MRS Volunteer Program Supervisor in training new and existing volunteers.
  2. Match Coordination: Coordinate with Case Managers and/or Family Consultants to determine match meeting dates for clients and their families to meet their assigned volunteers.
  3. Program Overview: Lead the strategic planning, oversight, and execution of improvements for the Youth Tutor and ESL Tutor Volunteer programs, ensuring their effectiveness and alignment with organizational goals.
  4. Volunteer Requests: Post staff requests for one-time volunteer needs.
  5. Volunteer Database Management: Support and assist in managing the agency's volunteer database.
  6. Volunteer Background Checks: Create new volunteer files and process volunteer background checks.
  7. Training and Procedures Development: Support the MRS Volunteer Supervisor in the development of training and procedures for new and existing MRS volunteer opportunities.
  8. Point of Contact: Act as the point of contact for new MRS volunteers during the onboarding process.
  9. Liaison: Serve as a liaison between volunteers and case managers to effectively communicate refugee client needs.
  10. Communication: Communicate with volunteers via email to ensure all required paperwork is completed.
  11. Volunteer Supervision: Help supervise any LDS Service Missionaries assigned to the MRS Volunteer Program
  12. Volunteer Progress Assessment: Follow up with volunteers and assess client progress.
  13. Youth Services Referrals: Refer Youth Tutor clients to the Youth Mentor programs as needed.
  14. Additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  1. This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  2. Some local travel is anticipated as part of the role's responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  1. While primarily a sedentary role, some filing tasks are involved. This entails lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and occasionally bending or standing as needed.

Education, Training, and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  2. Previous experience in case management or job development is preferred.
  3. Proficiency in Swahili, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Tigrinya is preferred.

Background Screening Requirements

  1. Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, certifications, and credentials

  1. A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Also, be 21 years old or older, maintain a clean driving record, and can fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.

Position status and expected schedule

  1. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
  2. Office hours are scheduled from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with occasional flexibility for evenings and weekends.
