Position Title: Refugee Housing Lead

Reports to: Case Manager Supervisor

Hiring Range: $20.00-$26.00/hr. DOE

Primary Function of Position

As the Refugee Housing Lead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that refugee clients have access to safe, sanitary, and affordable housing in compliance with Department of State standards. This position collaborates closely with case management to deliver core Reception and Placement (R&P) services related to housing. Building strong partnerships with community stakeholders is essential to meeting fundamental housing needs, and you will be dedicated to establishing and maintaining these vital foundations, recognizing that housing is key to clients' journey toward self-sufficiency.


Major Position Responsibilities

  1. Secure Housing: Take the lead in securing safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for refugee clients, adhering to the standards outlined in the R&P Cooperative Agreement.
  2. Landlord Relationships: Identify, cultivate, and sustain relationships with landlords to diversify housing opportunities, primarily focusing on the greater Salt Lake area while extending options statewide as required.
  3. Coordination of Setups: Collaborate with the Sharehouse Supervisor and Case Managers to coordinate apartment setups, ensuring seamless transitions for refugee clients.
  4. Supply Coordination: Develop a comprehensive housing supply list, working with the Sharehouse Supervisor and Office Coordinator to procure all necessary items and documentation.
  5. Rent Management: Work closely with landlords, Case Managers, and the Office Coordinator to ensure timely payment of all rents, fostering positive relationships with housing providers.
  6. Issue Resolution: Effectively communicate with landlords and CCS staff to address and resolve any housing-related issues that may arise.
  7. Orientation and Education: Coordinate housing orientations and follow-up education for refugee clients, including office-based orientation and in-home instruction.
  8. Program Applications: Collaborate with case managers to ensure eligible refugee families apply for public and affordable housing and rental assistance programs when available.
  9. Documentation: Thoroughly document services provided through meticulous case notes and case file documentation, aligning with the requirements of the R&P Cooperative Agreement and other grants.
  10. Supervision: Provide supervision and guidance to the Refugee Housing Assistant position, ensuring efficient workflow and successful execution of responsibilities.
  11. File Management: Act as a backup in preparing client files and maintaining the client information database.
  12. Office Coordination Backup: Serve as a backup to the Office Coordinator, seamlessly filling in as needed for the position.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  1. This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  2. Some local travel is anticipated as part of the role's responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  1. While primarily a sedentary role, some filing tasks are involved. This entails lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and occasionally bending or standing as needed.
  2. This role includes driving to local meetings and home visits in client apartments and houses.

  6. Computer Proficiency: Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills, including maintaining financial data, spreadsheets, database management, scheduling, and email using Office 365.
  7. Personal Qualities: Exhibits personal qualities such as openness, respect for co-workers and clients, compassion, and graciousness, contributing to a supportive and positive work environment. Demonstrates empathy when assisting clients in assessing and addressing their situations.
  8. Multilingual Proficiency: Fluency in languages other than English is a valuable asset, enhancing the ability to cater to diverse client needs.

Education, Training, and Experience

  1. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  2. Preferred experience in property management, showcasing a nuanced understanding of the field and its practical applications.

Background Screening Requirement

  1. Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, certifications, and credentials

  1. A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Also, be 21 years old or older, maintain a clean driving record, and can fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.

Position status and expected schedule

  1. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM - 5 PM - sometimes past 5:00 pm or on weekends according to client needs.
