Job Description

Associate, Volunteer Relations

About New York Cares

New York Cares exists to turn passion into action, leverage resources through partnership, and create long-lasting change across New York City. We've become the City's leading volunteer management organization by adapting and responding to our most pressing community needs – from everyday challenges like food insecurity and educational inequity to relief efforts in response to 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic. As we grow our team, we are committed to creating a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, and fostering a workplace where every employee feels valued, finds a place of belonging, and brings their authentic self to work.

About the Associate, Volunteer Relations

The Volunteer Relations Associate (VRA) will play a crucial role in cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with our volunteers to ensure their continuous engagement, satisfaction, and loyalty. In addition to organizing various volunteer-centric activities and events, the VRA will lead initiatives related to volunteer recruitment, on-boarding, training, and support. As a demonstration of a commitment to community involvement, the ideal candidate will thrive in a vibrant, team-oriented atmosphere, and exhibit exceptional communication and organizational skills.

Reporting to the Volunteer Program Manager, the VRA will be integral to executing our strategic vision for volunteer engagement and community impact.

Scope of Responsibilities

Volunteer Onboarding and Training

  • Support the on-boarding process by assisting volunteers with any queries and vetting their eligibility.
  • Familiarize volunteers with organizational goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance, ensuring volunteers are well-equipped with the necessary resources to excel in their roles.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of volunteers.
  • Maintain regular communication with volunteers through newsletters, email, mailings, and phone calls to provide updates, solicit feedback, and address any concerns or issues.

Volunteer Recruitment

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers using a variety of channels such as emails, workshops, community outreach, and partnerships.
  • Maintain volunteer databases and records to track recruitment efforts and gather demographic information.

Collaboration and Networking

  • Collaborate with team members across departments to identify volunteer needs and opportunities for engagement.
  • Establish and sustain relationships with community partners, organizations, and stakeholders to enhance volunteer recruitment and engagement initiatives.

This list is not an exhaustive job description. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or related fields preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging and motivating volunteers.
  • Proficiency in conflict management.
  • Proven experience with event management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects to successful completion.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • A strong passion for community service, cultural diversity, and fostering positive social change.

Compensation

The salary for this role is $58,000.

Salary is just one component of New York Cares’ total compensation package. We offer generous paid leave, including a winter holiday break, and summer Fridays; comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; access to a suite of e-learning courses; tax advantage accounts including a 403b Thrift Plan, FSA, and much more.

New York Cares is proud to be an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer. We are deeply committed to building a workplace where diversity, equity, and inclusion are valued and prioritized. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, family status, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, or any other non-merit-based or legally protected grounds.
