New York, United States COMMUNITY SERVICE SOCIETY OF NEW YORK Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Community Service Society of New York “Volunteer Associates Council”

Currently recruiting committee leadership and members-at-large.

Are you passionate about empowering New Yorkers in need? Are you looking for a volunteer leadership opportunity and a way to give back to the city that you love? Join the Community Service

Society of New York’s Volunteer Associates Council today

The Community Service Society of New York’s Associates Council (CSSAC) is a volunteer leadership committee for early career professionals and emerging leaders committed to empowering New Yorkers through donations of time and talent. The CSSAC advocates alongside the Community Service Society of New York staff, partners, and constituents to advance causes that matter most to those facing economic insecurity and systemic injustice.

The mission of the Community Service Society of New York’s Associates Council is to help CSS build a

New York that empowers those faced with economic insecurity and systemic racism to live with dignity and economic security. The CSSAC harnesses the expertise, voices, and energy of NYC-based emerging

leaders across professional sectors. The goals of the CSSAC are to support CSS’s advocacy programs; plan and participate in relationship-building and fundraising events to secure financial support that directly

benefits the CSS programs; and heighten awareness of the CSS mission through digital and social media amplification, all while developing and enhance their own leadership and networking skills.

The CSSAC is actively recruiting new volunteer members for leadership and member-at-large positions in 2023-2024. Together, we have the experience, vision, and strategies to fuel the work that will make New York a more equitable city and state.

CSSAC members are an integral part of the larger CSSNY partner network, including our constituents, partner non-profit organizations, staff, donors, foundation, corporate and government funders, and

Board of Trustees. CSSAC members meet quarterly (virtual or in-person), plan and attend awareness and fundraising events, and tap into their networks to find resources to meet the Council’s strategic goals.

Approximately 5 hours per quarter for members-at-large and 10 hours per quarter for leadership members.

The Community Service Society of New York (CSS) has worked with and for New Yorkers since 1843 to promote economic opportunity and champion an equitable city and state. We power change through a strategic combination of research, services, and advocacy to make New York more livable for people facing economic insecurity. By expanding access to health care, affordable housing, employment, opportunities for individuals with conviction histories, debt assistance, and more, we make a tangible difference in the lives of millions.

Some of CSS’s most notable accomplishments and programs include half-priced fares for low-income New Yorkers (and the current expansion to reach over 1 million enrolled participants), the nation’s most robust paid family leave policy, the Fair Chance Act, which prevents employment discrimination based on involvement in the criminal justice system, and most recently, CSS’s launch of the Education Debt Consumer Assistance Program (EDCAP) that is ready to help student loan borrowers tackle their

repayment plan. To learn more about CSS’s accomplishments, visit our website at cssny.org.
