Seattle, United States Christian Career Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDirector of Children, Youth and Family Ministries - Sand Point Community United Methodist Church

This position is salaried at $53,000 per year with a stable, dedicated funding source. It requires 35 hours per week with fewer summer hours from mid-June until September (except if the church hosts and/or participates in a week-long Vacation Bible School). Days and hours are somewhat flexible and some work may be done remotely, but Sundays and Christmas Eve are required on-site work days.

The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries:

  • connects children, youth, young adults and families to integrate into the wider life of the church;

  • develops outreach strategies to invite new families and to connect the congregation to the wider community;

  • works with the Pastor and staff to develop a ministry program which complements the faith formation for children, youth and families;

  • leads spiritual and faith forming education for Children and Youth each Sunday (including Children’s Time during worship);

  • recruits and supports volunteers;

  • coordinates and regularly updates the church’s social media accounts.

Desired qualifications:

  • Christian faith that includes an understanding of the Bible beyond a literal interpretation;

  • Shares our progressive-leaning theology and is hospitable to diverse viewpoints;

  • Strong organizational skills, positive interpersonal skills, and effective communication;

  • Ability to recruit and encourage volunteers;

  • Academic coursework or direct experience in Christian Education/Spiritual Formation;

  • Experience in early childhood development and/or in education desirable;

  • Familiar with social media platforms, and confident user of software to create relevant content.

What we hope for: The church has a small core of consistently attending families of preschool age children and sporadically attending elementary age children, but this could almost be described as a church planning opportunity. The church hopes that you will connect the families in our existing congregation and lead faith development. The applicant must be able to create and implement appealing, meaningful programming that will attract new children and families to grow the existing core into a stable critical mass.

Start date: As soon as possible.

To be considered for the position, please submit a cover letter and your resume. Employers will follow up promptly.

Mission statement: The church is an inclusive, caring community - committed to Christ’s work, seeking spiritual growth, and lovingly responding to the needs of God’s world. The church welcomes all persons, including members of the LGBTQ + community.
