Are you enthusiastic about sports and possess a solid understanding of soccer regulations? The City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation is seeking dedicated officials for the Youth Soccer Season. This is a part-time, seasonal role where you will officiate games for young players.

Work Schedule
These positions are extra-hire roles during the youth soccer season. The work typically occurs on weekends, with hours ranging from 4 to 10 hours weekly. Please note that these roles do not include benefits.
Compensation
The hourly wage for this position is $18.27, depending on experience.
Position Details
The Youth Soccer program caters to children from Kindergarten to 4th grade. As a Soccer Official, you will work under the guidance of the Assistant Recreation Manager, collaborating with coaches and scorekeepers to ensure a successful program.
Key Responsibilities
- Officiate youth soccer matches in accordance with established rules and procedures.
- Assist in the organization and storage of game day equipment.
- Maintain control of the game in a fair and confident manner.
- Ensure compliance with league regulations by all participants.
- Make informed decisions and calls based on your knowledge of the rules.
- Support emergency procedures as necessary.
- Verify that teams have the required equipment.
- Keep accurate records, including incident reports and communication with management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of soccer and the specific rules governing the Des Moines Recreation Youth Soccer program.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other officials, coaches, and scorekeepers.
- Capability to identify and address safety concerns.
- Strong verbal communication skills with players.
- Ability to maintain authority and control during games.
- Experience in providing instructional guidance to players of varying ages.
- Skill in managing interactions with participants, coaches, and spectators effectively.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds for equipment management.
- Flexibility in scheduling as hours may vary.
Minimum Requirements
- Prior experience in officiating and working with youth is preferred.
Special Conditions
- Applicants must be at least 15 1/2 years old.
- First Aid/CPR certification is required within 30 days of hire.
- Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.

Work Environment
- This position involves outdoor work, and travel to various program locations is necessary. Candidates should be prepared for physical activities such as running, bending, and lifting.
