ROLE SUMMARY


The Youth Support Specialist role presents an excellent opportunity to become part of a vibrant team providing round-the-clock supervision for adolescents and young adults, specifically those aged 16-18, within a Transitional Living Program.

In collaboration with relevant agencies, this innovative program will accommodate up to five young individuals at any given time, focusing on delivering daily oversight, personalized assistance, age-appropriate interventions, and culturally attuned independent living skills training, all while employing a trauma-informed and empowering methodology.

This position is located at our designated housing facility. The mission of our organization is to enhance young people's capacity to establish secure, successful, and fulfilling lives.Each year, we support thousands of children, youth, young adults, and families throughout the region with initiatives aimed at bolstering their potential through four key strategies:

mitigating risk factors; guiding transitions towards successful life outcomes; ensuring stability, safety, and wellness during crises; and fostering skills and social connections.

Our programs encompass housing, mental health services, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment support.

Many of the young individuals we assist have experienced involvement with the foster care system, the criminal justice system, and/or homelessness.

POSITION TYPE AND WORK HOURS

This is a regular part-time, non-exempt position.

SALARY RANGE:
$24.00 – $27.00/hour

Key Responsibilities:
Provide trauma-informed and relationship-centered supervision for children, youth, and young adults in these programs. This includes conducting safety checks at regular intervals throughout each shift.

Collaborate with program directors and case managers to support each resident's individualized, developmentally appropriate, strengths-based service plans.

Complete essential organizational and administrative tasks.

Engage in supportive group and individual supervision sessions with supervisors and team members. Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high-quality care for residents.

Maintain a safe, respectful, and appropriate living environment for all residents.

Exhibit de-escalation techniques in challenging situations, utilizing preventative behavior management strategies whenever feasible.

Foster therapeutic relationships with residents, both individually and within the group setting.


Encourage participation in various aspects of a resident's life, including but not limited to their child welfare involvement, medical and mental health needs, education, community and cultural values, recreational activities, life skills, and family engagement.


Assist with daily household routines such as meal preparation, supervising residents during daily chores and activities, managing household laundry, medication administration, and group activities. Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the program by performing assigned cleaning tasks and submitting maintenance requests as necessary.

Accompany residents to individual appointments and group community outings.

Complete essential organizational and administrative tasks.

Collaborate effectively with other staff and community partners to plan and facilitate activities.

Maintain clear, professional, and timely shift logs, participant contact notes, incident reports, and other documentation in designated databases.

Perform other duties as assigned.

This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely utilizes standard office equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

While executing the responsibilities of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly.

The employee frequently needs to stand, walk, use hands for handling or feeling, and reach with hands and arms.

Specific vision capabilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position may require the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

POSITION TYPE AND WORK HOURS

This is a full-time role, with hours and days varying according to shifts.

Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED/HSEC is required.


A minimum of one year of experience working with adolescents or young adults in foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, substance abuse, and/or homelessness sectors is necessary.

Must be at least 21 years of age (or between 18 and 21 years and enrolled in an internship, under the supervision of a staff member aged 21 or older).

Ability to teach effective independence skills tailored to various learning styles and to plan supportive activities.

Strong youth engagement and relationship-building capabilities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office.


Ability to transport oneself and clients safely, meeting clients at community locations; proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or the ability to travel to areas lacking public transportation.

Current state-approved First Aid and CPR certification is required.

Current approved training in HIV blood borne pathogens is necessary.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates or Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.) is advantageous.

Proficiency in any language in addition to English may be beneficial.

Authorized Driver Requirement

This safety-sensitive role necessitates transporting clients as "authorized drivers" for the organization using your vehicle. To meet this requirement, you must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of three years, and maintain a driving record that meets organizational standards (no more than two moving violations within the last three years, no significant incidents such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, or tickets exceeding 20 miles above the speed limit within the last five years) along with proof of current auto insurance; minimum recommended coverage limits are $300,000 per incident, and current vehicle registration is required. You must also pass a drug screening that tests for impairing substances, including marijuana.
