Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Safety Manager to lead our environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives at our food manufacturing facility. The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards. This role involves conducting inspections, providing training, and driving safety initiatives to foster a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards, including OSHA and FDA requirements.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant EHS laws and regulations.
    • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  2. Safety Program Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and environmental programs and policies.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
    • Lead investigations of workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and recommend and implement corrective actions.
  3. Training and Development:
    • Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees at all levels, ensuring that training materials are current and comprehensive.
    • Keep staff informed about EHS policies, procedures, and best practices through effective communication and training.
  4. Environmental Management:
    • Oversee environmental management programs related to waste management, pollution prevention, and resource conservation.
    • Conduct environmental impact assessments and ensure proper documentation and reporting.
  5. Emergency Response:
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, including evacuation and first aid protocols.
    • Coordinate and conduct emergency drills and training to ensure staff readiness for emergency situations.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of EHS activities, inspections, incidents, and training.
    • Prepare and present EHS performance reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.
  7. Continuous Improvement:
    • Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
    • Recommend and implement strategies to enhance EHS performance and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Learning and Development or a related field. Relevant certifications, such as CSP or CIH, are a plus.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in food manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct site inspections, including walking, climbing, and lifting as needed.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and participate in emergency response activities.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent visits to the production floor.
  • Travel between two manufacturing facilities required.
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including cold, hot, and wet conditions.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and manufacturing processes.
