Position Summary

The Health and Safety Program Manager plays a crucial role in the development, training, and execution of health and safety strategies, policies, and practices designed to cultivate a zero-harm workplace culture. This position is dedicated to fostering a commitment to employee safety that transcends mere regulatory compliance. The individual in this role will take charge of the occupational safety initiatives and will be responsible for reporting key performance indicators and metrics as necessary. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement proactive safety programs that promote a culture of accountability while ensuring adherence to OSHA regulations and all relevant federal, state, and local laws.
  • Effectively communicate the organization’s safety vision and values to team members to ensure comprehensive understanding and acceptance of safety policies and programs.
  • Ensure that safety and health training, along with documentation, meets or exceeds both company standards and regulatory requirements, preparing employees to perform their tasks safely.
  • Collaborate with management and departmental leaders to establish and maintain a thorough safety training curriculum for all staff, covering topics such as Lift Truck operation, Lock Out Tag Out procedures, Blood Borne Pathogen safety, General Safety Inspections, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Hazardous Communication.
  • Implement and uphold an effective incident investigation protocol that identifies root causes and formulates corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety practices, conduct audits of work areas, review incident reports, and recommend enhancements to minimize risk exposure.
  • Organize and facilitate company-wide safety meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Exhibit leadership through influence and collaboration while working with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient reporting mechanisms, including SDS and OSHA 300/300A/301 logs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, motivated to meet daily objectives without direct supervision.
  • Adhere to and promote all relevant safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) while executing job responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in designing and implementing safety programs, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.
  • OSHA 501 and CSP certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, and local standards relevant to general industry.
  • Proficient in delivering verbal and written presentations and effectively communicating with others.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
