HOUSING RETENTION SPECIALIST

 

COTS Housing Retention Specialist is a newly created role which will support tenants in COTS Housing.  This role is part of our Housing Retention Center, which works directly with clients who are without homes or who are at risk of becoming homeless to assist them in developing a service plan for transition to and/or maintenance of stable housing.  This role will primarily focus on individuals and families who are able to attain longer term housing through one of the various COTS Housing programs.

 

Primary responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to: building and maintaining relationships with COTS Housing tenants, and reguarly visiting each COTS Housing program to proactively identify and address any issues, concerns, or opportunities for programming; partnering closely with the Housing Navigators and Resident Managers as applicable to support the needs of our tenants; advocating and assisting clients in seeking community resources and support services; providing training and referrals for tenant education around financial wellness and life skills; supporting timely communication between the tenant, Resident Manager, and property management and facilitating conversation; problem solve issues with tenants as they arise; partner with Resident Mangers to cultivate a positive living environment for all tenants.

 

This role is a primary component of our prevention services, which directly impacts our mission of ending homelessness.

 

Minimum of HS degree or equivalent required; BSW or BA in a related field strongly preferred.  Candidates with a background in social work or mental health will be prioritized, and licensed social workers are encouraged to apply.  At least two years of related experience required; Strong candidates will have experience with individuals experiencing homelessness and crisis intervention, as well as knowledge of resources and services for individuals and families. This includes federal and state housing subsidy programs and affordable housing systems. Ability to work with individuals with mental health, medical, substance abuse and employment issues required. A combination of coursework and experience will also be considered.
