Job Summary

The Senior Regulatory and Compliance Consultant is responsible for overseeing and administering regulatory processes, requirements, filings, etc. requiring applicable government approval in an assigned region, state or states. These include but are not limited to, filing statutory and required product documents, handling government agency contacts and interactions, developing processes and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance, interaction with internal and external auditors and regulators and management of various regulatory and compliance projects. Assists the VP Regulatory and Compliance with identifying compliance risks and implementing plans to monitor and address risks.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supports compliance with applicable laws, regulations and other requirements by completing all required regulatory filings in a timely manner for operational area(s) assigned.
  • Responsible for the oversight and management of all regulatory filings as required by each state or region assigned in which the Company operates.
  • Effectively and efficiently tracks and reports on regulatory requirements and the Company’s adherence to those requirements.
  • Identifies areas of risk and/or non-compliance and initiates procedures to eliminate risk and/or assure compliance with regulations, laws, and other requirements.
  • May train, coach and supervise staff to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides direction to Company staff in areas such as new policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains external relationships and builds trust-based relationships with external regulatory representatives and auditors at state, county and local levels for areas, states, or regions assigned.
  • Responsible for working with appropriate team members to support new product lines, determine program/plan rates and develop administrative, operating and required regulatory forms.
  • Manages regulatory responsibilities and administration for state exchanges, as applicable.

  • Effectively managing a wide variety of required and necessary regulatory compliance activities and efforts.
  • Effectively working with leadership and team members to accomplish projects and performance goals.
  • Effectively working with regulatory agencies, personnel and regulatory auditors.
  • Maintaining and ensuring timely and accurate filing of required documents, certifications, and other legal requirements.
  • Maintaining a high level of integrity and appropriate confidentiality in all activities and efforts.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions.
  • Addresses and resolves a variety of complex regulatory compliance issues and problems.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements in processes, programs, procedures and services to assure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and/or supports regulatory compliance goals and objectives; makes decisions based upon best approach/practices to meet those goals, objectives and performance requirements.
  • Makes decisions based upon the appropriate application of regulatory best practices.
  • Performs any and all additional duties as required for this position.

Basic Qualifications

Experience

  • An additional 3 to 5 years of work experience in a regulatory compliance role.

Education

  • BA Degree in Business, Business Administration/Operations, Legal or related field, with a Masters/MBA preferred, or equivalent directly related progressive experience.

License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

Additional Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements in a dental plan member/provider network environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical, and strong problem-solving techniques.
