Job Overview: Wellness Program Driver (Peer Advocate) is responsible for ensuring the safe transportation Wellness Program participants to and from various locations. The role involves maintaining a supportive and respectful environment, adhering to all safety protocols, and aiding passengers as needed. This position requires personal or lived experience with mental health or substance use disorders, excellent communication skills, compassion, and a commitment to promoting the well-being of program participants.

Responsibilities:

  1. Safely transport individuals enrolled in the Wellness Program to and from designated locations, such as medical facilities, counseling centers, and support group meetings.
  2. Ensure the comfort and safety of passengers during transit, including assisting individuals with mobility challenges or special needs.
  3. Maintain a clean and well-maintained vehicle, performing routine inspections and reporting any maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  4. Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while operating the vehicle, prioritizing the safety of passengers and other road users.
  5. Communicate effectively with program staff to coordinate transportation schedules and ensure timely arrivals and departures.
  6. Provide a supportive and respectful environment for individuals participating in treatment programs, offering encouragement and assistance as needed on a peer level.
  7. Provide community resources and support through advocacy and care coordination.
  8. Maintain confidentiality regarding the identities and personal information of program participants.
  9. Display empathy and compassion, enabling connection with program participants on a deeper level and understand their feelings and experiences.
  10. Respond calmly and professionally to any emergencies or incidents that may occur during transportation, following established procedures for reporting and resolving issues.
  11. Understand and maintain professional boundaries while sharing personal experiences and providing support.
  12. Attend team meetings and training sessions as required to stay updated on relevant policies, procedures, and best practices.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by program management to support the effective operation of treatment programs.
  14. Connect the electric vehicle to proper charging equipment at the end of each day, or as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in healthcare, social services, or related field preferred.
  2. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and a demonstrated commitment to safe driving practices.
  3. Previous experience working in a similar role, such as transportation services or patient support, is desirable.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  5. Compassionate and empathetic demeanor, with a genuine interest in supporting the well-being of others.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  7. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and familiarity with safety procedures for passenger transportation.
  8. Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the scheduling needs of treatment programs.
  9. Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  10. Commitment to upholding the values and mission of the treatment program, including promoting recovery and supporting individuals on their journey toward wellness.
