Position: Regional Peer Coordination Advocate

Program: Regional Coordination

Department: Youth Services

Reports to: Regional Coordination Supervisor

Compensation: $31.67 per hour, plus an additional $1.75 per hour for Shift Differential Premium for hours worked during late-night shifts.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Union

Mission of the Center: To foster a society where LGBT individuals thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members.

Department Summary: The Youth Center provides support to individuals up to 24 years old who are at risk of or currently facing homelessness. It offers services in a safe and affirming environment for LGBTQ+ youth, assisting them in transitioning from homelessness to stable housing. Services include meals, clothing, support groups, educational programs, employment training, case management, counseling, crisis shelter, and transitional living programs.

Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Regional Coordination Supervisor, the Regional Peer Coordination Advocate will engage with key partners to enhance participation in the Coordinated Entry System (CES) within Los Angeles County. Responsibilities include facilitating regular CES Care Coordination Meetings, engaging youth and youth boards, training staff and partners on CES policies, identifying barriers, and sharing insights and progress with community stakeholders. This role may also encompass other centralized functions that benefit the entire Service Planning Area 4 (SPA 4).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and nurture partnerships across SPA 4 by establishing relationships with both traditional and nontraditional organizations serving homeless youth and young adults.
  • Collaborate with various entities, including DMH, DHS, LACOE, DPSS, DCFS, and P3, to ensure youth are identified and served effectively.
  • Enhance capacity for non-CoC funded services for homeless participants and increase involvement from privately funded and faith-based service providers.
  • Provide leadership and support for system infrastructure by implementing policies, attending regional coordination meetings, and representing CES at relevant meetings.
  • Foster existing interagency relationships to address system gaps and improve the housing system in SPA 4.
  • Offer CES system support and leadership, emphasizing youth perspectives and experiences.
  • Contribute feedback on youth experiences and data collection methods to better represent youth needs within the CES.
  • Ensure all CES funded and leveraged programs operate cohesively to create a seamless care system for youth and young adults facing homelessness.
  • Coordinate youth-led training sessions for providers and stakeholders, developing an annual training plan to promote cultural change in service delivery.
  • Advocate for youth interests by facilitating quarterly meetings of youth groups, promoting resource awareness, and connecting peer workers across SPA 4.
  • Collaborate with community-based organizations focused on LGBT, youth, and homeless services to meet the needs of members.
  • Participate in staff and planning meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and understanding issues relevant to LGBTQ individuals.
  • A commitment to the Center's mission to improve the lives of LGBTQ individuals.
  • Required lived experience accessing services in a youth homeless services agency.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by LGBTQ youth, with experience working with high-risk youth being a plus.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience, particularly with youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with housing-first, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Ability to manage emotional stress and conflict, including working with uncooperative clients.
  • Skills in engaging youth in activities and facilitating workshops.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus (preferred fluency in English/Spanish; American Sign Language fluency is a plus).
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse populations in a multicultural environment.
