Job DescriptionJob Description

The Dog Control Officer will be responsible for contracted townships with the Central New York SPCA by enforcing Article 7 of the NYS Agriculture & Market Laws regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance, and unwanted loose dogs and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; scans animal for microchip. Deliver the dog to the owner with the appropriate violation citation. If the owner is not located, the animal(s) must be transported back to the shelter.

Essential Functions

Investigate complaints from the public and other agencies regarding nuisance, stray, uncontrolled, dangerous, or diseased animals

Explain local laws, codes, and ordinances relating to the care and control of animals, filing complaints, and policies of the shelter to the public

Issues citations for violations of applicable regulations; patrols assigned areas operating Central New York SPCA vehicle

Captures stray and unlicensed animals for impounding; contact the shelter veterinarian of any injured animal to provide care

May testify in court regarding citations and disposition complaints

Operates humane traps, mobile radios, cell phones, and microchip device to scan stray animals and give information to appropriate staff members at the shelter to follow up

Maintains records of work performed and materials used

Represents the Central New York SPCA with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and public
