The Arc of Palm Beach County is a dynamic, community-based nonprofit serving and advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At The Arc, we are driven by our vision of a community where every person feels welcome, connected, and accepted.
Position Summary:
The ESE Coordinator is responsible for working with the Head of Schools, Director of Education, instructors, students, and student family members to develop the annual IEP, maintain schedule for state required testing, and provide testing for students. They must also assist with related issues pertaining to the student’s education and locating and acquiring necessary supports for students and their families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates and maintains the student IEP and Re-Evaluation schedule.
- Completes IEP and Re-Evaluation process in a timely manner per FDOE requirements.
- Works in concert with all staff, students, and parents to develop student IEP goals and provides effective communication with and seeks input from parents, teachers, students and others as indicated.
- Works in partnership with instructors to ensure IEP is implemented in the classroom.
- Monitors student IEP goal progress.
- Facilitates ESE/IEP/Re-Evaluation team meetings.
- Updates families as indicated about student needs and progress.
- Makes appropriate referrals to support agencies.
- Participates in professional staff development, ESE Coordinator meetings, and Test Coordinator meetings.
- Assists supervisor with student recruitment efforts.
- Assists with student activities as needed.
- Participates on school committees as needed
- Manages and develops the testing schedule.
- Administers FSAA and EOC’s as needed.
- Assists students with the development of self-monitoring strategies that effectively minimize behavioral problems.
- Facilitates the participation of agency representatives in each student’s transitional IEP meetings.
- Acts in a professional manner and displays willingness to cooperate with all staff.
- Reports immediately any situation, condition, or circumstance that is hazardous or harmful to staff, clients, or the general public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of FDOE criteria to write an IEP.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and team members.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Maintain professional and courteous demeanor.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, agencies, vendors, donors and funders.
- Identify concerns, generate and evaluate alternate solutions and make sound recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, or related field required.
- Must possess and maintain a current Florida’s Driver’s License and state minimum requirements for auto insurance.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment/machinery such as copy machines, printers etc.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- The ability to observe, identify, and recognize details at close and long range.
- Occasionally will need to move about, positioning self, ascend and descend.
- Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds across office for various needs.
