The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) plays a pivotal role at We Care of Central Florida (WCCF), spearheading the development, execution, and monitoring of a diverse, comprehensive outreach plan. This position is not just about aligning WCCF’s strategic vision with its community engagement efforts but also about making a tangible, positive impact in the lives of the community we serve.


The CEC fosters brand awareness, expands physician volunteer capacity, and drives fund development. Through core strategies that uphold WCCF’s mission, the CEC's work spans special events and campaigns, public relations and awareness, social media, event promotion, and fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate for this role has the opportunity to make a significant difference in the community, with their experience working with diverse socio-economic communities, volunteer management skills, and a deep understanding of the community's social service resources.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Act as an inspiring spokesperson for the organization, regularly preparing and delivering strategic messaging that aligns with WCCF's mission.
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues and trends in the non-profit and healthcare sectors. Participate in monthly meetings to stay informed on matters related to indigent healthcare.
  • Regularly attend events and participate in community activities throughout Polk County to establish WCCF’s profile and credibility and increase the number of community partnerships and supporters.
  • Purchase, maintain, and organize all supplies required to attend Community Events.
  • Form and strengthen relationships and partnerships with the following to expand WCCF’s presence in the community:

Medical/Dental associations

Local universities/colleges

Businesses

Churches

Community leaders

Community groups (Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions Club, etc)

Potential donors

Key stakeholders

  • Publicly recognize and acknowledge community partners and volunteer contributions to WCCF
  • Other duties as required by the organization

 

FUNDRAISING

  • Address WCCF’s fundraising needs by developing an annual strategic, financial, and operational plan with primary and third-party fundraiser targets and timelines for approval by the CEO. This effort raises funds and engages the community, ensuring that WCCF has a diversified mix of proactive fundraising revenue initiatives.
  • Develop and recruit a volunteer fundraising committee.
  • Responsible for creative and logistical aspects of events to ensure efficiencies, deadlines, and adherence to budget. Ensure that WCCF follows all regulatory requirements for conducting the event, including proper logo and branding and timely filing or submission of permits/applications/fees.
  • Identify, solicit, and cultivate individual donors and businesses/corporations to secure monetary and in-kind sponsorships and donations as appropriate to the event. Ensure corporate sponsor packages/levels and benefits are outlined and benefits met.
  • Other duties as required by the organization.

 

COMMUNICATION/MARKETING

  • Develop and implement a Communication/Marketing Plan and Budget that includes campaign/project-specific vital messages and client testimonials. This can involve using paid advertisements, billboards, targeted ads, etc.
  • The CEC is the linchpin of our online presence and is responsible for devising, developing, and presenting an annual social media strategy to the CEO. They also oversee WCCF’s social media channels, ensuring a steady stream of content and fostering interactions with other pages and “friends” of We Care. The CEC manages published content (images, videos, written material) to engage community members, build brand awareness, and ensure all graphics remain consistent with WCCF's current branding theme.
  • Manage and work with appropriate parties to update the WCCF website.
  • Take pictures or arrange for them to be taken at WCCF-affiliated events. Promptly transfers photos to the WCCF Shared Drive and maintains the historical memory on that platform.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the eligibility requirements for patients and ensure that the targeted patients match WCCF's mission. Refer specific service-related questions to the appropriate WCCF staff members.
  • Other duties as required by the organization.


DONOR RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Build the case for support that will motivate donors to give. Write donor correspondence, including solicitation materials, newsletters, acknowledgments, emails, and meeting follow-ups.
  • Establish and maintain positive communications and relationships with donors.
  • Other duties as required by the organization.

 

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT/ENGAGEMENT

  • Recruit, engage, and retain an active list of volunteer Physicians willing and able to provide FREE specialty healthcare services to patients referred by WCCF.
  • Develop an annual Physician Appreciation Campaign
  • Work closely with the CEO to determine WCCF's Specialty/Project needs and actively recruit providers for those Specialties.
  • Ensure all required VHCPP documents and WCCF internal documents are executed, maintained, and tracked on WCCF’s Shared Drive.
  • Ensure all general volunteer applications and hours worked are tracked and recorded on WCCF’s Shared Drive.
  • Other duties as required by the organization.


REPORTING AND METRICS

  • Responsible for the professional preparation of reports and presentations and the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of data.
  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities.
  • Responsible for the acquisition of patient testimonials/surveys, including visuals.
  • Regularly report on WCCF’s progress toward established performance metrics.
  • Submission of monthly reports detailing the CEC’s monthly tasks and accomplishments no later than the 5th day of the following month.
  • Other duties as required by the organization.


REQUIRED - QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Must be a proven leader with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of agency vision, mission, and services
  • Must articulate and sell the story of WCCF as its ambassador. Must have excellent face-to-face communication skills and strong public speaking ability. Must be able to convey thoughts logically and concisely both orally and in writing, using appropriate grammar and command of the English language. Must be skilled in fundamentally exchanging factual information and/or answering routine questions.
  • Must have demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and be familiar with entering data into online systems. Must have intermediate proficiency in operating all standard office equipment.
  • Must be proficient with desktop/mobile apps and social media.
  • Must advocate for respect and equality irrespective of race, color, creed, national origin, (dis)ability, veteran status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or financial means. Must have the ability to interface with and engage diverse groups of people.

PREFERRED - QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience in a non-profit organization or foundation and, ideally, experience related to public health, governance, infrastructure, and fundraising.
  • Experience with public relations, marketing, and fundraising development
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the public health sector with an understanding of the health system in Polk County, including the grant and funding landscape.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work involves both outdoor and office environments. Employees are protected from weather conditions or contaminants in the office environment, but not necessarily occasional temperature changes.
  • While working outdoors, employees may not be protected from weather conditions.
  • Employee is regularly exposed to on-street driving and moving vehicles.
  • Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive hand motions (such as keyboarding), standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and pulling and pushing objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Employee must occasionally climb ladders, kneel, squat, crouch, balance, reach overhead, use a shovel, etc.


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education/certifications and experience in a relevant field of study such as Public Health, Public Administration, Marketing, Social Services, Special Events, Communication, Public Speaking, or a related discipline.


LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable personal vehicle use.

 

WORK LOCATION/SCHEDULE

  • Hybrid – Minimum of 2 days in office/week
