A well-funded and highly innovative start up from Third Rock Ventures is emerging out of stealth with a syndicate of marquee investors and is seeking a talented Sr. Scientist to join the Biology pre-clinical team. The Sr. Scientist will serve as Biology team lead for a discovery-stage pipeline program(s) focused on antibody-driven diseases. The role will be responsible for leading in vitro assay development for molecule screening, lead characterization and development candidate selection. The ideal candidate is an expert lab-based biologist with a background in immunology, preferable B/plasma cell biology.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as functional team lead for pre-clinical pipeline program(s) and work collaboratively/partner with peer team leads to advance program(s) to IND
- Design, execute and manage in vitro biology functional experiments that support preclinical drug discovery including candidate screening, lead selection, and target validation
- Lead the development of disease models
- Develop fit-for-purpose drug mechanism of action studies which will require bringing novel techniques, assays and/or technology in-house
- Manage some out-sourced CRO-based workflows
- Independently develop and execute quantitative assays (ELISA, cell signaling, flow cytometry) and establish primary cell-based assays with a variety of immune cell subtypes (including lymphoid and myeloid cells)
- Become subject matter expert in the biology of target area, work with director of biology to establish pre-clinical program strategy
Required qualifications and experience:
- Ph.D. in relevant scientific area, such as immunology, cell/molecular biology with 2+ years of experience in Biotech/Pharma industry
- High impact, peer reviewed publications and a proven track record of productivity and creativity
- Exceptional cell biology skills (including primary cell culture, quantitative assays, functional experiments) and expertise in immunology or other relevant area.
- Capability to work within a dynamic matrix environment, with strong contribution to project strategy and execution
- Excellent communication, presentation, and inter-personal skills; superb organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in the field of B/plasma cell biology Type-1 hypersensitivity disorders is strongly preferred
