RNA Chemical Biology Co-op Internship

This is a co-op internship opportunity in the field of chemical biology at Moderna. The individual will work at the Cambridge, MA site and focus on the chemical biology of nucleic acids and RNA biochemistry to develop Moderna's next generation building blocks for mRNA medicines. The co-op will be mentored by a Sr. Scientist and will design experiments, develop the appropriate methods, and perform in vitro and cell-based assays to study mRNA.
Key Responsibilities
- Design experiments to ask specific questions about the chemical biology of RNA
- Maintain and perform experiments with various mammalian cell lines
- Develop and execute qPCR, click chemistry protocols, and other cell-based or in vitro assays
- Analyze biochemical transformations of RNA by LC-MS
- Record and communicate findings to a broader company audience
- Present results at internal meetings
Requirements
- Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related science
- Successfully completed general and organic chemistry
- Preferred prior completion of biochemistry courses
- Prior lab experience preferred, including mammalian cell culture
- The candidate must be highly organized and possess a great attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
- Knowledge of LC-MS analysis is a plus but not required
Preferred Qualifications
- GPA of 3.5 on a 4 scale or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as the ability to contribute to high performing teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
