Position Title:           Peer Run Drop In Executive Director

Position Purpose:     The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of MHCAN’s program, staff, building, and budget.

Primary Responsibilities:

·      Planning and coordinating an effective program to promote overall consumer involvement

·      Supervise & assist in tracking persons who do not have Medi-Cal and might want to apply. Stay current on any changes to Medi-Cruz, Family Services, Medi-Cal eligibility, and homeless health programs and train peer support workers in providing services in support of or navigating the public health system

·      Must be able to provide referrals, support and help in regard to health related care.

·      Assist in the training of filling out medical and health-related paperwork and navigating the system, with special attention in regard to providing referrals & support in navigating Medi-Cal system & paperwork

·      Personnel, financial and site management

·      Developing relationships with donors

·      Write grant proposals and manage grant reporting.

·      Functioning as a liaison to the County, other funding organizations, and other human service organizations; and

·      Connect with peer organizations throughout the state and nation; and

·      Bring greater awareness of peer movement and advocacy to MHCAN.

 

Duties:

·      Prepare annual budget and operate within budgetary constraints.

·      Perform Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable in QuickBooks.

·      Perform semi-monthly payroll in QuickBooks, including management of time cards.

·      Provide fiscal oversight of overall organization, including multiple projects and programs, providing financial reports to the board of directors, and audit preparation.

·      Maintain Corporate and financial records.

·      Provide personnel management and perform human resources functions based on MHCAN’s board-approved personnel policies, applicable labor laws & Staff Handbook.

·      Create annual fund development plan and support board involvement in fundraising.

·      Fulfill all contractual responsibilities, including meeting all application and reporting deadlines.

·      Ensure maintenance of grounds and building

·      Ensure electronic tracking of daily attendance and group attendance

·      Write grant proposals and manage grant reporting

·      Organize meetings and forums of interest to consumers

·      Provide or contract out support and training for peer counselors based on best practices in group facilitation and peer counseling

·      Utilize outcomes measurements and develop evaluation methods to show MHCAN’s essential value in the continuum of care

·      Build coalitions, when appropriate, based on common concerns of consumers of mental health services, providers of services, family members, and the general community

·      Advocate for mental health policy change

·      Perform other work activities according to the needs of consumers and staff and political issues in the community

·      Effectively juggle numerous critical priorities on a day-to-day basis, including activities at multiple sites regularly

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·      Supervises & does HR for all Employees.

·      Leads management team if MHCAN has managers at time.

·      Able to implement pandemic protocols if appropriate

 Qualifications

·      Openly declared consumer of mental health services with at least 3 continuous years of demonstrated stability

·      If clean and sober, has 3 continuous years of demonstrated sobriety & stability

·      At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership position in an organization.

·      High level of comfort and effectiveness in working with a diverse participatory network of people and professional providers of mental health services and community groups.

·      Ability to set boundaries and enforce policies while being courteous and respectful of others.

·      Skill in conflict resolution with excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating flexibility in problem solving and sensitivity to individual differences.

·      Knowledge of various models of consumer-operated service programs and their values of person-defined well-being, self-determination, recovery and hope.

·      Knowledge of the principles of Supportive Housing.

·      Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines and to work independently.

·      Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent academic experience and five years experience working or volunteering with mental health populations.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills including putting together reports, grants and proposals; experience writing project proposals.

·      Thorough working knowledge of basic accounting procedures and financial principles for nonprofit organizations, including funds handling and preparation of bank deposits.

·      Proficiency in QuickBooks, including payroll and reporting functions.

·      Ability to enforce pandemic protocols including mask wearing & services rendered outside & remotely, if appropriate

·      Thorough working knowledge of human resources principles & practices.

·      A commitment to serving the diversity of mental health clients in Santa Cruz County.

·      California driver’s license with insured vehicle or another source of dependable transportation is essential.

·      Knowledge of the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation; Certification as a psychosocial rehabilitation specialist would be a plus.

·      Conversational Spanish or Mandarin would be a plus

·      Knowledge of the political legislative process; familiarity with Welfare & Institutions Codes

·      Thorough working knowledge of computer programs: MS Word, Excel, electronic mail, file documentation and networking. Ensure maintenance and updating of donor database, including ability to generate reports and labels.

·      Experience in developing written documents, advocacy letters on behalf of clients, and presentations are essential.

Pay & Vacation Time

 

$77,000. plus medical and dental benefits. 2 weeks vacation the first 2 years, 3 weeks vacation after 3 years and 4 weeks vacation after 5 years.
