We are seeking a Disability Analyst 2 to join our Collaborative Disability Determination Team.

What you need to qualify

Three years of experience evaluating applicants for Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income program benefits; AND a bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Psychology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, or a closely related field

OR

Three years of responsible pertinent experience which provided a knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, physical and mental impairments, how the impairments affect work performance, and the treatment, prognosis, and duration for physical and mental impairments (e.g., Military Corpsman, Nurse, Psychiatric Aide, Medical Assistant, Bodily Injury Claims Adjudication, Industrial Therapist, etc.).

Essential attributes

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Experience with SSA disability program adjudication.
  • Experience with Medical and/or Mental Health terminology and records.
  • Experience working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience interviewing to obtain information for a human or social services program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing relationships that establish trust, approachability, and collaboration amongst individuals with diverse learning and communication styles. Inclusive and respectful of others’ contributions and ideas.

Your duties at a glance

Aging and People with Disabilities Program – The APD Program is a program within the Department of Human Service that assists seniors and people with disabilities of all ages to achieve well-being through opportunities for community living, employment, family support and services that promote independence, choice and dignity. to learn more about Aging and People with Disabilities. 

As a Disability Analyst, you will:

  • Determine eligibility for the State Family SSI/SSDI and PMDDT Disability Benefit Liaison programs by using criteria developed by the State of Oregon and Social Security Administration (SSA).
  • Research, interpret, and apply complex technical procedures resident in the SSA Program.
  • Direct purchase of consultative medical examinations and advise staff on the preparation of statements and other written assessments to document claims.
  • Prepare, in partnership with the individual, an application for Social Security or other benefits as appropriate. 
  • Write and file appeals and requests for reconsideration on all denied benefits, if appropriate.
  • Order, obtain, analyze and evaluate medical, psychological, social, vocational, and other pertinent data as part of the eligibility determination process. 
  • Consult with mental health specialists, Disability Determination Services specialists, vocational rehabilitation specialists, vocational nurses, and medical professionals to determine disability and make appropriate referrals for services.
  • Review disability claims processed by other Disability Analysts to determine or re-determine eligibility.
  • Participate in medical determination team meetings, which may discuss eligibility for the State Family SSI program.
  • Carry a specialized caseload of individuals applying for SSI. 

Working conditions

  • Majority of your work will be conducted in the office and community. You may have some opportunities for hybrid work. One day a week in the office is required after training.  
  • Occasional travel around the district is required.
  • Hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs.
  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.
  • This environment requires constant use of a computer with ongoing changes to applications that affect the way work is done.
