Job Description

Position Description

In preparation for the November 5, 2024, General Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions as logic and accuracy proofers. These positions will support the Polling Place Operations Division with various election tasks, including validating, monitoring, and tracking reports generated by voting equipment. The role primarily involves working at the Department’s warehouse located at Pier 31.

In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1402 job code, , the person in this position will have the following tasks:

Proofreading reports with 100% accuracy Organizing and filing reports and documents Validating, monitoring, and tracking reports Handling voting equipment: labeling, tagging, cleaning, organizing, and lifting up to 50 pounds Scanning barcodes and preparing forms and labels Providing general clerical support Assisting in other warehouse operations, including inventory, assembly, and supplies organization Assisting with other election-related functions, which may need to be completed in other locations, such as the Department of Elections office at City Hall

Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work Location

This is a seasonal position, with the start date contingent upon the completion of the hiring process. The Department aims to fill this position by September 16, 2024. The position will end approximately in the second week of November, with the exact end date to be determined based on the operational needs of the Department.

Work hours will vary according to the demands of the election cycle, ranging between 20 and 60 hours per week. While most work is expected to be completed during regular business hours (8 to 5 Monday through Friday), adjustments may be necessary to meet operational requirements. Employees must be available to work overtime during the week and on weekends as needed. Overtime will be paid at a rate of times the hourly rate.

Work is generally performed in the warehouse, which has limited temperature control, but may also require offsite duties. Workers may be exposed to varying temperatures, loud noises, dust, fumes, and/or odors.

This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Position Salary: to hourly

$57,356 to $69,680 annually

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. 

Experience:

Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail: OR

Substitution:

Any one of the following may substitute for the required experience:

Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with operating voting equipment, proofing voting system reports, inventory tracking with scanning equipment, and data entry. Ability to follow detailed instructions, focus on tasks, multitask, adapt to schedule changes, and operate office equipment including handheld scanners and computers.
