The Senior Executive Director for Obliteride reports to the Vice President, Philanthropy. This role leads the vision, strategy, and team for Obliteride, Fred Hutch's largest peer-to-peer fundraising event, bringing more than 5,500 riders, walkers, and runners, and more than 800 volunteers together to raise millions of dollars for innovative research and compassionate care at Fred Hutch. The Senior Executive Director is responsible for delivering on Obliteride's ambitious year-over-year goals for growth in participant-raised dollars, participation, and number and size of teams. Obliteride raised over $8 million in 2023 and more than $49 million since launching the event in 2012. Our goal is to double event fundraising over the next two years. Some travel and weekend and evening work will be required.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the high-performing Obliteride team with well-articulated strategic priorities, strong program development, sound judgment, and innovative approaches to raise more funds for annual and long-term goals including increased revenue and number of donors and participants.
  • Serve as a senior decision maker with accountability for driving financial results and operational excellence, and responsibility for managing complexity.
  • Manage people, programs, and process improvements to advance the Annual Philanthropy Plan. Create an environment that develops and sustains talent through inclusive activity and performance management.
  • Support campaign readiness and ramp-up.
  • Strengthen and evolve the vision and north star for the program; develop a strategic plan for near-and long-term program performance and evolution.
  • Build trusted relationships to work effectively across Philanthropy (partnering with Donor Communications, Advancement Services, Corporate Engagement, and Gifts & Grants) and the institution (partnering with Marketing & Communications, Directors Office, and research faculty).
  • Raise the profile and strength of Fred Hutch's reputation among donors, prospective donors, volunteers, and potential employees acting as chief Obliteride spokesperson for internal and external audiences; communicate Obliteride strategy and progress to key leaders and community members.
  • Facilitate meaningful interactions for donors and prospective donors (including patients and patient families), participate in a robust schedule of events, and represent Fred Hutch in the community.
  • Set and assess appropriate metrics to build a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Develop tactics for increasing engagement and fundraising through consistent metrics analysis and leadership of participation and revenue performance meetings.
  • Manage resources including creation of annual budgets.
  • Partner with and provide leadership and mentorship for Philanthropy colleagues.
  • Serve as a leader of others, leader of one type of program, and have direct responsibility or influence on fundraising.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Twelve years experience in nonprofit, university, or healthcare environment including seven years in a leadership role.
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising and board-level volunteer management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing large-scale community events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience within research and/or health care institute, including patient family fundraising programs.
  • Familiarity with athletic fundraising events.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $172,806 to $287,976, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
