Position Summary

The Chief Philanthropy Officer for Obliteride will report directly to the Vice President of Philanthropy. This role is responsible for leading the vision, strategy, and team for Obliteride, Fred Hutch's largest peer-to-peer fundraising initiative, which unites over 5,500 participants and more than 800 volunteers to generate significant funds for innovative research and compassionate care at Fred Hutch. The Chief Philanthropy Officer will be accountable for achieving Obliteride's ambitious growth targets in participant-raised funds, participation rates, and team sizes. The event has raised substantial funds since its inception, with goals set to double fundraising efforts in the coming years. Some travel and weekend and evening work may be necessary.

This position offers the flexibility to work partially on-site and remotely.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing Obliteride team with clear strategic priorities, robust program development, sound judgment, and innovative fundraising approaches.
  • Act as a senior decision-maker responsible for driving financial outcomes and operational excellence while managing complexity.
  • Oversee personnel, programs, and process enhancements to advance the Annual Philanthropy Plan, fostering an environment that nurtures talent through inclusive practices and performance management.
  • Support campaign readiness and preparation.
  • Refine and advance the vision and strategic direction for the program; develop plans for both immediate and long-term program performance and evolution.
  • Build trusted relationships to collaborate effectively across Philanthropy and the institution, partnering with various departments.
  • Enhance Fred Hutch's reputation among donors, potential donors, volunteers, and prospective employees, serving as the chief spokesperson for Obliteride.
  • Facilitate meaningful interactions for donors and prospective donors, engaging in a variety of events and representing Fred Hutch within the community.
  • Establish and evaluate appropriate metrics to foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Manage resources, including the development of annual budgets.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Philanthropy colleagues.
  • Serve as a leader of others and have direct responsibility or influence over fundraising initiatives.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of twelve years of experience in nonprofit, university, or healthcare settings, including at least seven years in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience in peer-to-peer fundraising and managing board-level volunteers.
  • Proven track record in leading and expanding large-scale community events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within research and/or healthcare institutions, including patient family fundraising programs.
  • Familiarity with athletic fundraising events.

The annual base salary range for this position is competitive and will be determined based on experience and qualifications. This role may also be eligible for relocation assistance.
