Brief Job Overview

(Senior) Advocacy and Strategic Alliances Manager is a strategic and implementing position within the USP Convention and Stakeholder Engagement department of Global External Affairs. This role will develop and lead the implementation of an integrated advocacy and engagement strategy across the organization to advance enterprise priorities, such as building trust in the supply of safe, quality medicines. Collaborate with colleagues across USP to address issues through targeted stakeholder engagement, and help identify and cultivate allies through strategic approaches, meaningful content, and well-executed tactics. Work on complex legislative and regulatory issues where analysis of the situation or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the health policy and political landscape. Develops and maintains relationships with identified organizations with clear accountabilities and goals.

The (Senior) Advocacy and Strategic Alliances Manager has the following responsibilities:

Support a comprehensive strategic engagement plan to build enduring relationships with key advocacy organizations (groups representing patients, consumers, practitioners, hospitals, drug companies, and industry trade associations) to support legislative and regulatory affairs activities that promote medicines quality.

Participate in policy/advocacy coalitions on behalf of and to represent USPs policy priorities and interests.

Raise awareness about and build initiatives around the importance of access to a supply of safe and quality medicines and dietary supplements.Support activities and outreach to third-party stakeholders including participating in and capturing key information from regular policy briefings, workshops, coalitions and ad hoc working groups.

Support Senior Directors leadership of the USP Executive Team Advocacy Committee.

Routinely leverage USPs communications tools, campaigns and resources and deliver them to strategically targeted stakeholders.

Support strategic initiatives that establish USP as a leader in global supply chain resilience.

Serve as a connector and a source of credible information by consistently delivering meaningful opportunities and relevant communications to advocates.

Develop content that amplifies and conveys complex policy issues and data to diverse audiences, including Hill staff and other advocacy organizations.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

Bachelors degree in relevant field.

Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a health-related trade association or in public policy, advocacy, public affairs, or strategic communications role in industry or consulting.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in strategic external relationship management.

Demonstrated application of engagement and advocacy best practices in the health and science space.

Deep understanding of the priorities of the public health advocacy community, as well as the importance and value of working with stakeholders in this community.

Able to successfully manage multiple projects at once, effectively prioritizing and maintaining focus on outcomes.

Agility comfortable with change, adapting to new processes, objectives, or tactics.

Curiosity desire to grow understanding of issues, of Convention Membership.

Well-honed organizational, interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and listening skills.

Strength in collaboration and ability to influence and inspire in a matrixed organization.

Strong writing skills for a variety of audiences, platforms, and objectives.

Additional Desired Preferences

Advanced degree in public health, public policy, and/or a strong acumen of the U.S. regulatory system.
