About Baytown

With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.

Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

A risk assessment facilitator who specializes in corrosion and process degradation of fixed equipment and piping. Working as part of the Reliability group in the Baytown Engineering Services (BTES) Department at ExxonMobil petrochemical facility in Baytown, Texas.

What you will do
  • Develop or refresh piping and fixed equipment strategies:
    • Align with key business members on Equipment strategy basis such as equipment criticality and economics, work selection criteria, and mitigation timing basis
    • Solicit required risk assessment basis information including, process fluid descriptions and operating conditions, inspection history, equipment design details, and operating modes
    • Develop draft risk assessments in conjunction with site materials engineers
    • Develop preliminary consequence assessments utilizing corporate guidance documents and tools
    • Facilitate cross-functional review with process, mechanical, technical, and engineering to finalize risk assessments and mitigation strategies
    • Review significant risks with up-line management and obtain approval of proposed mitigation strategy
  • Assist with annual equipment strategy development schedule efforts to align with planned turnarounds and major maintenance activities
  • Participate in turnaround work selection reviews and equipment strategy peer quality reviews
  • Incorporate evergreen updates to equipment strategies based on findings from field inspection or maintenance activities
  • Interface with other technical disciplines and promote the career development of fellow employees
  • Provide mentoring on equipment strategy process to customers supporting the Refinery, Chemical Plant, Olefins Plant, and Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant
About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Chemical, Materials or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in teams
