Position Summary: The Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer will deliver expert technical guidance to ensure the effective application of process safety standards and ongoing enhancements to compliance, aimed at minimizing risks while promoting health, safety, environmental, and security adherence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support all environmental health and safety initiatives to cultivate a safety-oriented culture across all operational sites.
- Serve as the primary contact for resolving intricate maintenance and process challenges, assess existing manufacturing workflows, propose enhancements, and optimize processes.
- Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for both new and existing operations.
- Establish and uphold key performance indicators (KPIs) for plant PSM effectiveness.
- Conduct root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to ensure thorough investigation, assessment, and resolution of process safety issues.
- Oversee audit procedures and perform audits for pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), acting as an internal auditor for PSM, ISO, and the Responsible Care initiative.
- Collaborate closely with operations and maintenance teams to promote mechanical integrity and quality assurance practices.
- Manage and facilitate the site management of change (MOC) program.
- Effectively complete site-specific PSM action items and incident investigations.
- Guide and mentor new team members, providing essential training and information.
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety best practices, policies, and procedures, including process safety management (PSM).
- Commit to fulfilling all Responsible Care obligations, demonstrating a strong dedication to safety, environmental responsibility, and ethical conduct in all job aspects.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail, alongside robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Teams.
- Basic understanding of chemical manufacturing equipment, components, and repair methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of effective preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
- Ability to adjust strategies in response to new insights, evolving conditions, and unforeseen challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a proven track record of fostering positive relationships with contractors, clients, and colleagues.
- Capacity to make informed decisions independently and exercise discretion in significant matters.
- Able to work autonomously and collaboratively to achieve organizational and departmental objectives, manage multiple tasks, develop work plans, and meet stringent deadlines.
Educational Background and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of relevant engineering experience.
- At least three years of direct experience in a PSM-regulated environment, preferably within the chemical processing or manufacturing sector.
- Experience in a continuous chemical manufacturing facility operating 24/7 is highly desirable.
