Job Summary: The Campus Mapping and Surveying Program Manager develops, implements, and operates the geospatial interests of The University of Alabama. Completes programming, development, analysis, database management, and web mapping of a varied scope of geospatial content. Serves as the main point of contact for all Finance and Operations technology issues related to software and hardware. Coordinates, manages, and directs GIS database/applications, development, definitions, maintenance, supervision of personnel, and implementation. Manages daily operations and is the primary shareholder for future geospatial planning and growth for the division. Aids the coordination of drafting, mapping, and graphic illustrations for other contributing departments and external partners. Ensures all projects close-outs with geospatial feature classes are submitted in the compliance with contract documents.


Additional Department Summary: Proven skills in managing a geospatial program at a municipality, college, or university is required. The Campus Mapping and Surveying Program Manager plans for and implements all aspects of the University of Alabama's Finance and Operations Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-related projects including facilitating project teams, identifying resources and establishing project objectives, timelines and milestones, and developing standards for GIS deployment and use. With extensive knowledge of available GIS development environments, the Campus Mapping and Surveying Program Manager determines which is most appropriate for any task and how to move data between the potential systems. This position must cultivate significant influence across multiple departments including, Facilities, Energy Management, External Vendors, OIT, Public Safety, and EHS.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Earth Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in geospatial development and management; OR master's degree in GIS, Geography, Earth Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in geospatial development and management.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Establish and maintain productive relationships with a full range of personnel that reflect a strong commitment to customer service and collegiality. Enthusiastic work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience with SQL Server Studio, AJAX for the Esri ArcGIS, AutoDesk, Python, HTML, and XML. Must be able to explain GIS-related technical issues and concepts to non-technical staff. Ability to operate computer software such as databases and word processing.


Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of land surveying in the State of Alabama and surveying equipment.
