About the Role
The Optical Engineer Technical Specialist is responsible for the design, development and testing of Optical hardware based on the
Optical architecture and the Optical requirements within a project.
Your Responsibilities
Development of core and/or application specific Optical requirements for automotive electronics.

• Develop Optical hardware in compliance with the Magna Global Product Engineering Process (GPEP).

• Develop creative approaches to processes and practices, products and solutions, services, business models and strategies.

• Verify Optical requirements at component and bench level testing.

• Support rest of the functional disciplines with all aspects related to Optical hardware.

• Support customer meetings as the technical subject matter expert for a specific product or discipline

• Support internal quote activities with optimized optomechanical architectures

• Support strategic component suppliers with direction to optimize components for Magna optomechanical architectures

• Participate in continuous improvement efforts. Research, recommend and implement new and/or existing products,
processes, materials, and equipment.

• Benchmark competitor solutions and determine best ways to improve or surpass the competition.

• Competency and mastery of the field.

• Support Manufacturing development for camera specific operations

• Mentor and coach engineers as well as peers in field of expertise across division

• Facilitate and encourage innovation across engineering discipline boundaries and global engineering centers.

• Support and influence roadmap/standards definition with industry partners

• Protect Magna Intellectual Property with appropriate documentation and submission of novel product concepts

• Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Who we are looking for
Your preferred qualifications
Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Physics/Optical Engineering/ Power Electronics/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (PhD preferred).
  • 10+ years relevant experience regarding the responsibility / activities (listed above).
  • Seasoned expert with advanced specialized knowledge in optical design software like Zemax and Code V.
  • Automotive electronics experience.
  • Experience as customer interface for all Optical related activities.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety critical Optical hardware, fault tolerance design including familiarity with ASIL safety standards.
  • Experience with EMC design rules and international test standards.
