Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications provides vision and leadership relevant to all athletics communications, sports information and game day operations for Occidental's 20 intercollegiate teams. This will include, but is not limited to: all aspects of game day operations, managing the athletics website and social media accounts, overseeing livestream and live stats for home contests, hiring/training/scheduling/mentoring all game day and communications support staff members, maintaining and updating department records & archives, serving on the Athletics Hall of Fame and The OXYs (co-chair) committees, and providing information & services to the campus community, general public, media, SCIAC, NCAA, or other agencies regarding Oxy Athletics.

Job Duties

45% - Athletics Communications – provides information & media related services pertaining to Oxy Athletics; manages athletics website & social media accounts; maintains & updates department records and archives. 45% - Game Day Operations – oversee all aspects of game day operations including livestream & live stats, game day posts & updates, and games management staff. 10% - Committees & Events – serves on Athletics Hall of Fame and The OXYs committees, and provides pre-event and day of support forboth annual events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, athletics or other related fields to position responsibilities.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in athletics communications, marketing, and/or media.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing communication/marketing strategies.
  • Proficiency in all software and livestream programs related to the athletics program.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail- oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.

  • Ability to provide employee development, training and opportunities for direct reports to demonstrate performance achievement and success; recognizing performance of both above standards and needs improvement and respond accordingly.
  • Skilled at communicating feedback verbally, in writing and electronically; and documenting performance via introductory and annual performance appraisals.
  • Skilled in developing and determining corrective employment/performance/behavioral strategies, as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute performance improvement plans, conducting disciplinary action and/or determining the appropriateness of employment continuation. Preferred Qualifications
    • Three years of athletics communications, sports information, game day operations and/or event management experience at the collegiate level.
