Job Summary

The University of Southern California is seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our Athletic Medicine team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our athletes and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and record patient vital signs, administer medications and parenteral fluids, and obtain specimens under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
  • Recognize changes in patient physical and mental condition, take appropriate action by notifying physician and/or nursing supervisor.
  • Provide comprehensive medical record documentation that reflects all aspects of care provided during each encounter.
  • Promote security by alerting appropriate personnel for safety, fire, and other unsafe situations.
  • Assist with stocking supplies, cleaning rooms and equipment, and ensuring patient charts are prepared prior to appointment.
  • Perform venipuncture methods, instruct patients regarding procedures, and provide patient care if fainting or loss of consciousness occurs.
  • Assist in coverage for switchboard, appointment system, and reception area, as needed.
  • Clean, wrap, and autoclave instruments, set up surgical trays, and assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
  • Assist and/or transport patients to exam rooms or surgical suites, take specimens to laboratory, and return with reports.
  • Maintain files and records, oversee equipment and office supply inventory, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Vocational Nursing Program
  • Must have passed the NCLEX-PN licensing examination
  • 1 year experience in an acute care setting
  • Demonstrated intrapersonal skills and knowledge of patient care and/or needs
  • Ability to follow orders and work independently within scope of practice
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse - LVN (CA DCA) Valid California Vocational Nursing license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
  • LVN - Intravenous Therapy Certification (CA DCA) IV Certification required for this department
Compensation

The hourly rate range for this position is $39.69.
