The incumbent provides patient care to an assigned group of patients in the Cancer Center. The nurse incorporates the psycho-motor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Assists in patient research accrual by varied projects and reviewing patient schedules against available protocols. Acts as a role model to students and Clinical Nurse's new to the unit. Functions as a (PCC)Patient Care Coordinator as requested by the supervisor/manager.

Appropriately utilizes pain scale and other interventions to provide pain relief. Assesses and documents the patient's physical & psychosocial condition, as well as response to care. Required Qualifications:

  • Training and experience in the management of patients receiving cellular therapy
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum of six months demonstrated nursing experience
  • Minimum 6 months experience working as an RN in an Inpatient or Outpatient Oncology setting OR 1 Year clinical experience and recent completion of cancer basics class from Oncology Nursing Society within the previous year
  • Minimum 6 months experience working as an RN in an Inpatient or Outpatient Oncology setting OR 1 Year clinical experience and recent completion of cancer basics class and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation course from Oncology Nursing Society within the previous year
  • Minimum 2 years of current oncology and chemotherapy experience
  • Knowledge of complications associated with HSCT and CAR-T Cell Therapy
  • Knowledge and practice of body mechanics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of infection control techniques
  • Current chemotheropy/biotherapy card required within 3 months of hire
  • Current chemotherapy/biotherapy card required within 2 months of hire
  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS certification
  • BMT and CAR-T cell therapy patient population knowledge
  • BLS Certification or obtain within 3 months of hire date
  • All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, physicians and others as part of a care team
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • 1 year current oncology and chemotherapy experience required


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of JCAHO requirements
  • Oncology Certification
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
