Pharmacy Advanced operations Pharmacist provides authoritative professional guidance in their areas of specialty, assist pharmacy leadership in coordinating quality initiatives, maintaining federal/state regulatory compliance, and optimizing safe and cost-effective medication systems aligned with evidence-based best practices and regulatory standards.

Functions as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in complex pharmacy operations, medication use systems and delivery of optimal medication therapy, which require the application of advanced intensive knowledge of the area of specialization. The Pharmacy Advanced Operations Pharmacist may have different assignments or functional role, such as information systems, automation and technology, controlled substance management, sterile/nonsterile compounding to meet state/federal regulations.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Evaluates compliance with State Board of Pharmacy laws, federal regulations, pharmacy business practices, and accreditation standards. Makes recommendations to pharmacy leadership regarding necessary improvement. Assists in implementation of improvement plans.
  • As a subject matter expert, ensures pharmacy areas, equipment and devices, supplies, medications, and personnel in their areas of specialty are meeting the requirements by coordinating routine testing, auditing, and validating competencies as needed.
  • Promotes and facilitates the adoption and assimilation of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, technology, and operational systems which improve pharmacy service, quality, and productivity.
  • Provides subject-matter expertise for design, implementation, and maintenance of pharmacy systems. Responsible to ensure that required trainings are completed and that operational workflows align with established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates of departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and procedures to conduct pharmacy operations and fulfillment in line with budgets/finances, department goals and objectives, and to perform services both effectively and efficiently.
  • Provides integrated pharmacy operational services in a variety or practice settings in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams such as engineering, supply chain, physicians, and nurses.
  • Evaluates the root causes of operational related issues and leads process-improvement projects or quality initiatives as needed to advance practice.
  • Triages any unexpected downtime or unusual cases, develops plans for continuity of essential pharmacy operations and works with vendors/multi-disciplinary teams to resolve any underlying issues.
  • Performs all duties of pharmacists as needed. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education. Experience: Completion of a PGY-2 Residency program and 6 months of related hospital experience, OR Completion of a completion of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program and 2 year of related hospital experience OR Five (5) years of related hospital experience Licensure/ Certification: Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy -AND- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers -OR- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.
  • Operational in-depth knowledge of the departmental information, technical system, facilities, finances, and medication system used in various functional areas.
  • Knowledge and application of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations surrounding pharmacy and medication management, including facility inspection and licensing processes related to areas of functional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based or data-driven process improvement methodology
  • Knowledge of finances and cost-effectiveness in pharmacy operations
  • Knowledge of prescription and non-prescription drugs and drug products and their indications, efficacy, dosage, mechanisms of action; fate and disposition (if known), major contraindications and potential side effects.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature; medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Knowledge of influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition.
  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice
  • Ability to apply independent judgement and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to conduct cost effectiveness analysis and formulate conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus with other departments and external vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and exercise a high degree of tact in coordinating with and advising other members of hospital staff, patients, and various other professional contacts. Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $201,323.20 to $218,441.60
