Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) seeks a Major Gifts Officer, a motivated professional serving in an important fundraising role in securing philanthropic revenue for NMH and expanding donor support. The Major Gifts Officer, working under the direction and closely with the Senior Director of Development, will develop and implement fundraising strategies and activities to carry forward the mission and vision of Northfield Mount Hermon through procurement of major gifts and commitments.

A Day in the Life:

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) at Northfield Mount Hermon starts each day by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of current and prospective alumni and parent donors; this individual creates and implements strategic action plans for top prospects with the intent of deepening relationships on behalf of NMH. This person strategizes engagement and solicitation efforts tailored to donors' interests and the school's strategic goals. The MGO engages alumni, parents, and friends through email, phone, and social media as directed by senior leadership. Throughout the day, this individual attends school events and collaborates with colleagues to create and implement personalized solicitation plans. Detailed contact reports are diligently logged into the CRM system to track interactions and progress. The MGO works closely with trustees, volunteers, and faculty to cultivate relationships and secure major gifts of $25,000 or more, aiming to meet annual outreach and revenue goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • At least 3 years of experience relevant to frontline fundraising and relationship management or transferable skills and experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively is required. Required Travel: 70-80% of one's time.
  • Commitment to NMH's mission of a diverse and inclusive community
  • Enthusiastic ability to meet and connect with a wide range of individuals.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to craft stories and present complex information.
  • Able to manage multiple prospects and proposals simultaneously
  • High attention to detail, considerable initiative and innovation.
  • Able to create and sustain good relationships with NMH constituents and colleagues across the school and within the alumni/parent community.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively within established guidelines, while at the same time functioning as a member of a collaborative team.
  • The ability to learn new software tools quickly.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to be stationary and use the computer for extended periods of time and be able to move up to 20 lbs occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn about contemporary philanthropy and the vehicles available to individuals to achieve their philanthropic goals.
  • Previous experience in the education industry, independent schools, or boarding schools.
