The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is excited to offer a competitive hourly opportunity to serve as a Behavioral Health Support Specialist.

The selected competitive candidate will provide exceptional delivery of services to the agency's Behavioral Health Services Unit.

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


This position will serve as the project lead for the Behavioral Health Division (BH) for both Mental Health (MH) and Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS).


This position will be the primary point of contact for BH projects and project teams, currently composed of 6 teams with the potential of increasing.


This includes working directly with project teams leads on the day-to-day tasks associated with this position to include but not limited to assisting with project development, ongoing planning and follow through to implementation.


The successful candidate will have direct contact with and be responsible for coordination and workgroup support with BH stakeholders, Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs), contractors and other state agencies.

The position you are applying for is an Hourly/Wage position.

Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during their employment year.

This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave.


Located in beautiful Central Virginia, the Richmond area puts you just 2 hours from the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia Beach and Washington DC.

Minimum Qualifications

Competitive candidates will meet these minimum qualifications:


Considerable/Experience of healthcare programs and behavioral health care practices; experience with member and provider education, and strategies for improvement of access to services.

Considerable/Experience with utilizing and interpreting Virginia Medicaid policies and procedures as well as developing and interpreting guidance documents.

Considerable/Experience working with teams and independently, project planning and leading/co-leading workgroups.

Considerable/Experience of program development/planning/implementation and evaluate of programs and alternative approaches.

Considerable/Experience with personal computers to include Excel, PowerPoint, spreadsheets; workflow development and project management tools.

Considerable/Experience with interpretation and application of federal, state laws/regulations.

Experience in meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects at one time.

Experience with internal/external stakeholders including diverse provider and advocacy groups, other state agency staff, and consultants/contractors.
