Job Summary
Job Description
The director is responsible for the management of all Research accounting activities including the collection, disbursement, recording and reporting of research funds.

45% Oversees all aspects of grant/contract administration

Manage invoices and financial status reports for grants, contracts and cooperative agreements.

Audits cost sharing and grants expenditures for allowability, allocability and timeliness.

Interprets and applies state and federal laws and regulations concerning grants and contracts.

Enters drawdowns for agencies with online billing and reconciles with Workday.

Determines proper reporting requirements such as special forms, expenditure allowances, travel regulations, closeout procedures, property disposition and other special regulations.

Responsible for ensuring payroll benefits and F&A are properly charged and recovered

Responsible for setting up new awards and projects in the accounting system

Coordinate and monitor cost share and Research accounts.

Manage office budgets

Provides technical assistance to resolve problems concerning proper University or sponsoring agencies regulations and procedures. Interface, as necessary, with external/internal auditors

Ensure Workday reports and invoices are timely and accurate

Writes or modifies reports to retrieve requested information from the financial system to meet needs of management or principal investigators and their staff

Responsible for performing year end closing duties


30% Financial reporting for Office of Research

Manage Medicaid contract cashflow to minimize reimbursement time

External reports (SEFA, NSF HERD, etc.)

Internal reports (recovered payroll benefits, recovered F&A, monthly awards, etc.)

Calculate and coordinate return of indirect, coordinate account close outs (cost reimbursable and fixed price) and coordinate document retention/destruction schedule.


15% Supervise Office of Research accounting/grant administration personnel

Train staff to minimize administrative and PI burden while ensuring high quality customer service

Update policies and procedures with team feedback as needed for compliance and effective communication


5% Attend conferences or compliance training as directed by the Assistant Vice President for Research or Vice President for Research

5% Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Research or Vice President for Research


Required Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Accounting, Masters of Business Administration OR Certified Public Accountant certification with a minimum of ten years progressively responsible accounting work experience, five years of which must include management responsibility with supervision of professional staff;

Working knowledge of and experience with computer-based accounting systems;

And must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of Grants Compliance.

Desired Qualifications:

Workday accounting experience.
