Parent Infant Education Program Supervisor

An Overview

This position works within the Early Childhood Division's Early Childhood Wellness Program to provide clinical and administrative supervision to early childhood staff who provide mental health prevention and early intervention services to support the healthy social and emotional development of children birth to five, across child serving systems. The position supports the development and facilitation of professional development designed for family day care staff, preschool staff, and parents on a variety of early childhood mental health topics that support social/emotional school readiness for children. Prevention, intervention, and short-term individualized treatment services are provided using a using a mental health consultation model. Services may be provided in a variety of community settings to include natural environments (family day home, preschool, home). Individuals served may present with developmental delays and disabilities, complex trauma, involvement with social services and foster care.

What You Should Bring

The ideal candidate should have Knowledge and skills to observe and assess the emotional health of children 0-5. Ability to identify mental health concerns, delays or disabilities in children 0-5. Ability to explore relationship conflicts that impact the child's development. Clinical skills and strategies to assess and intervene in troubled infant/parent relationships. Capacity to provide early childhood mental health consultation. Ability to facilitate planning and support for young children at risk of or experiencing social and emotional concerns in partnership with the child's family and caregivers. Ability to plan and supervise the work of others. Knowledge of program evaluation procedures and outcome measures. Some knowledge of quality assurance methods. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with collaborative partners.

The Opportunity:

Clinical
Provides program oversight and administrative and clinical supervision to early childhood therapists, family support specialists and interns.Provides infant and early childhood mental health consultation and coaching to programs and families with children birth to age five receiving services through ALX Preschool programs and Family Day homes participating in VQB5.Conducts CLASS observations, Feedback sessions and recommends strategies to programs to support healthy classroom environments and management.Conducts clinical observation and assessments of children birth to age five and develops strategies to support social/emotional school readiness.Monitors the implementation of social-emotional curriculums used by Alexandria preschool and family day home teachers through site visits and various monitoring tools (e.g. CLASS, Streaming 3).Demonstrates conceptual skills in assessing therapist skills and using reflective feedback with supervisees.Maintains clinical records for early intervention services.Plans and organizes the work of the team to ensure availability, monitoring, and support of locally regulated family day homes.
Administrative
Leads regular staff meetings to review work and brainstorm solutions to problems.Acts as a liaison to the City and external agencies for program information and referral.Ensures that staff completes all required city and departmental training and any other mandated training requirements for their positions.Writes and submits monthly reports detailing staff accomplishments, program changes and measurements of outcomes regarding prevention programs, staff documentation of monitoring visits and up-to-date family day home and preschool programs.Monitors the timely submission of service data entry by staff.Attends Capital Area Ready Regions Meetings and other local planning meetings.Recruits, interviews and selects program staff as needed.Manages program grant implementation, prepares grant reports, and drafts grant renewal applications (when applicable).Performs other related work as assigned.

The Center for Children and Families (CCF) provides programs and services for Behavioral Health, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Child Welfare & Child Protective Services, Early Childhood and Youth Development. CCF provides compassionate, collaborative and effective person and family-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety, recovery and resiliency for Alexandria children and all residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Master's degree and three years of training or clinical experience in Part C Early Intervention. Areas of study and experience include allied health, child and family studies, early childhood, human development, psychology, public health, nursing, counseling, social work, special education or other related field approved by Part C as an Early Intervention Professional or, Early Intervention Specialist, or Early Intervention Case Manager; and one year of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have a valid driver's license. Licensed or license-eligible professional (listed in minimums) with specialized knowledge in childhood development, the effects of stress and trauma on families, the importance of attachment for young children, and the impacts of adult mental health on developing children. At least two years of experience providing mental health counseling services to diverse populations of young children birth to age five and their families; At least one year of specific knowledge, training, and experience in assessment and treatment of caregiver/child attachment issues. At least one year of experience in engaging families in services.
