The Lead Teacher plays a crucial role in crafting a comprehensive educational plan utilizing the A Beka Book curriculum along with additional resources. This position involves coordinating and executing the curriculum while overseeing the daily operations of the classroom. A profound understanding of children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development is essential to create a safe and engaging learning environment where children can thrive.
The Lead Teacher must excel in communication with children, parents, and staff to effectively address the needs of the children, guide teaching assistants, and manage parental inquiries. Regular updates on classroom activities and specific child-related matters are required through the BrightWheel platform.
The Lead Teacher is also responsible for parent meetings, conducting developmental assessments, and ensuring a secure educational atmosphere that promotes learning, play, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, coordinate, and implement educational programs by creating classroom activities that align with developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Model effective teaching practices and support the success of the teaching team through guidance and mentorship.
- Organize individual and group activities that are age-appropriate to foster social, cognitive, and emotional development.
- Maintain open communication with parents via the BrightWheel app, informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all center policies, Virginia State Licensing Standards, and Department of Education regulations.
- Promote a healthy classroom environment by adhering to hygiene, cleanliness, safety standards, and appropriate child-to-staff ratios.
- Supervise teacher assistants and volunteers to ensure adherence to planned activities and safety protocols.
- Keep accurate records and documentation through BrightWheel.
- Engage in ongoing personal and professional development for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in child care.
- An Associate's Degree in early childhood education or a related field with at least 30 credits in ECE or a child-related discipline.
- Alternatively, a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency.
- High energy and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, children, and parents.
- A solid understanding of child development principles.
- Certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check and health screening.
- Experience in lesson planning and implementation.
- Physical requirements include the ability to walk frequently, use hands and fingers, lift up to 25 lbs., and maintain visual and auditory supervision of children.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the A Beka Book Christian Curriculum.
- Experience using the BrightWheel App.
- Medication Administration Training (MAT) certification is a plus.
