Boulder, Colorado, United States Danaher Full time

Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) is the leading manufacturer of custom oligonucleotides and proprietary technologies for genomics applications. Our work is complex and cutting-edge, and our team members are curious, creative thinkers who understand that good data drives smart decisions. At IDT, we realize that although science may be uniform, people are unique. We promote a culture where engaged people are motivated and have opportunities to achieve their full potential, as part of one global team.

IDT is one of 10 Life Sciences companies of Danaher. Together, we accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of solutions that safeguard and improve human health.

Residing in our Boulder office, the Scientist III will join our Archer Research and Development team and contribute key capabilities, expertise, and vision to our automation product development efforts. The Scientist III will be responsible for the design, execution, and critical evaluation of experiments and studies conducted in support of product development, optimization, and customer success efforts. This role will require multi-functional scientific understanding and leadership skills in close collaboration with other scientists, engineers and technicians in the R&D, Software, Engineering, Quality Control, and Manufacturing departments to support evidence-based decision making and strategic process and product improvements.

As a member of the R&D - Automation team, the Scientist III will play a key role in delivering outstanding systems, protocols, and processes—enabling high throughput next generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation through reliable and scalable automated liquid handling scripts on a range of industry leading platforms, such as Hamilton, Tecan, and Beckman systems. As familiarity with AMP-based NGS increases, novel approaches to experimental design, development, and automation of NGS products will be expected. This position is a key part of the greater R&D, Commercial, and Customer Success teams, requiring strong communication skills.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize automation protocols for speed, quality, efficiency, and scalability
  • Communicate findings and educate audiences with diverse technical backgrounds
  • Provide end-user support to manufacturing operators, quality assurance and customer success personnel
  • Lead by example to create an inclusive culture that values high engagement
  • Build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships cross-functionally to develop and improve technology and information transfer
  • Work with collaborators both in industry and academia to create custom assay solutions

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • PhD in a life sciences or engineering discipline with demonstrated expertise in genetics/genomics and automation
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience (required) with 2+ years in industry (highly preferred)
  • Programming experience in Python, R, Bash, VBA, or other scripting language
  • Proficient with molecular genetics wet-lab techniques, particularly PCR and NGS library preparation

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Working with liquid handling robotic systems – Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, etc.
  • Next generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatic tools for NGS analysis
  • Cancer genetics
