The ideal candidate will possess a robust history of leveraging profound knowledge in cancer biology and biological sciences to discover and advance molecules towards IND and optimal clinical development.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Oversight:
- Guide, mentor, and supervise a team of scientists and researchers within the Biology and Pharmacology division
- Encourage a collaborative and innovative research atmosphere that promotes creativity and scientific excellence
- Formulate and execute strategic plans for the department, ensuring alignment with the company’s overarching goals and objectives
- Oversee all biological and pharmacological research initiatives, ensuring they are conducted with scientific rigor and ethical standards
- Identify and prioritize new research avenues and projects that resonate with the company’s mission
- Drive the development and validation of novel biological assays, technologies, and products
- In addition to providing strategic oversight, actively engage in the advancement of research programs
- Work alongside other departments, including Chemistry, Non-Clinical Development, CMC, Clinical, and G&A to ensure cohesive project development and execution
- Articulate research findings and progress to senior management, stakeholders, and external partners
- Represent the organization at scientific conferences, industry events, and in scholarly publications
- Develop and manage the department's budget, resources, and equipment efficiently
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity
- Demonstrated success in managing and leading small-molecule oncology projects from discovery through IND
- Comprehensive knowledge of current trends and advancements in biological sciences and biotechnology
- Strong expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, and related fields
- Extensive understanding of key components of drug discovery, including drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, toxicology, and structural biology
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to collaborate effectively across disciplines
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance in the biotech industry
- Experience in the dynamic environment characteristic of small biotech firms is preferred
