ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Sr. Video Distribution Engineer builds and maintains cutting-edge compression and digital distribution platforms for one of the premier national broadcasters.

Gain and maintain knowledge of major satellite and fiber distribution systems and the vendors that supply them. Work various shifts as part of a 24/7 coverage team and obtain the ability to translate business and operation requirements into technical requirements.
Engineering & Support Acts as Tier 1 support for all on-air broadcast systems.Follows standard operating procedures and documentation to support the operations team in a 24/7 environment.Builds and maintains FOX's compression & transport infrastructureConducts lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX's architecture and infrastructureCollaboration & PartnershipsSupports the Media Control Center in day-to-day operations and assists users with technical issues or concernsPartners with the Engineering and Standards & Advanced Technology teams to develop groundbreaking technology solutions for challenging business issuesCollaborates with engineering teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors to develop long-term strategy, product development, and implementation road mapsPerformance ImprovementKnows data is critical to making informed business decisions and uses it to understand and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your already amazing team's performanceAnalyzes dashboards and constantly optimizes system security and testing, minimizing bugs and making it to final productsPrioritizes the use of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to motivate the teamPeople Management & DevelopmentEmbodies a culture of continuous learning, especially in emerging technologies Is motivated by being part of a high-performing team and delivering high-quality productsEnjoys learning from and coaching othersWHAT YOU WILL NEEDMaintain and troubleshoot compressed and uncompressed workflowsMPEG/JPEG decoding, encoding, transcoding,processing, multiplexing, encryption, decryption, uplink/downlink processes,master control, etc. Build strong knowledge of SCTE insertion systems, media contribution/distribution.Have familiarity with on-prem test and measurement platforms - acquire the ability to work effectively across different projects and teamsAdvanced maintenance of Satellite and linear distribution, architecture/deploying, monitoring, alerting, and/or data analysisLead new projects, collaborate with various teams, test and validation of new systemsConducting lab, performance and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX's architecture and infrastructure of the SMPTE 2110 suite of standardsExpert knowledge of SDI video transport and familiar with new video codecs and compression i.e. SRT, RTP, Zixi, HLS etc. Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, OSI model, subnetting, and VLANs. Experience with basic switch configuration and identifying network addressing issues.NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKERBachelor's Degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science or related Tech fieldAdvanced knowledge of video compression & codecs, such as SMPTE ST-2110, JPEGXS, HEVC.Knowledge and experience with emerging technologies such as 4K High Dynamic Range, and HDR10+ is a plusKnowledge of industry standards such as, Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)Basic Linux Admin skills, such as system configuration, scripting, and command line proficiencySolid understanding of windows-based operating systems.
