The Brown University School of Public Health invites applications for an Associate (tenure-track or tenured) or Full (tenured) Professor position in the Department of Epidemiology with a potential start date of July 2025.

We are seeking applications from candidates possessing expertise in epidemiological methods, including causal inference, with a preference for application to at least one of the following substantive areas of growth at the School: life course epidemiology, substance use disorders, environmental health, pharmacoepidemiology, global health, or cardiovascular/metabolic disease.

The successful candidate will be expected to sustain an existing externally funded research program, as well as to teach and mentor students in their area of study.

Applicants at the full professor level will also be expected to demonstrate a track record of national or international recognition and leadership within epidemiology or the larger public health field.

The Department of Epidemiology is home to a robust doctoral program and oversees the epidemiology concentration for the growing MPH program.

The Brown School of Public Health and the broader University offer opportunities for substantial collaboration with world class researchers in the constituent disciplines of epidemiology as well as in a broad range of other domain areas in health care and policy research, engineering, brain sciences, computational biology, and behavioral sciences.

The School of Public Health is home to 14 thriving research centers and ranks among the top ten schools of public health for NIH funding.

Applicants must possess a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in epidemiology or a related field. Alternatively, candidates must possess a relevant clinical doctoral degree (e.g., MD, PharmD).

Candidates should have evidence of strong methodologic training and a track record of making methodological contributions to a specific substantive area.


Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

research excellence and productivity, including ability to maintain a successful program of extramural funding; evidence of the ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; and evidence of an ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Department of Epidemiology is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
