Position Overview:
The Department of Biology and the Neuroscience Program at Providence College is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track role at the Assistant Professor level.


This position entails a joint appointment in both Neuroscience and Biology, with a teaching distribution of 2/3 in Neuroscience and 1/3 in Biology. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, Neurobiology, or a closely related discipline.

The scope of this role encompasses various domains within Neurobiology, with potential research areas including but not limited to Cellular or Molecular Biology, Neurophysiology, Developmental Neuroscience, Physiological Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Neuroimmunology, or Addiction.

Successful candidates will exhibit excellence in undergraduate education and mentorship, alongside the capability to develop an active research program that involves undergraduate students.

Responsibilities include teaching 5-6 undergraduate courses annually, which will consist of Introduction to Neuroscience (100-level course; 3 credits) and at least two of the following foundational Biology courses required for both Neuroscience and Biology majors:

  • General Biology with lab (4 credits)
  • Cellular & Molecular Biology (200-level writing intensive course)
  • 300-level Biology courses such as Anatomy, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Microbiology, or Genetics.

Additionally, there will be opportunities to teach Neurobiology (300-level course; with lab, 4 credits) and upper-level seminars in the candidate's area of expertise (400-level).

Candidates will also contribute to the curricular development of the interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, which has recently been established as a major.
