RESPONSIBILITIES:

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Controller in Washington, DC.Roles and Responsibilities:Financial Management:
  • Controller will oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis to the leadership team and board of directors
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Accounting and Reporting:
  • Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and submit all required financial reports, including annual audits, tax filings, and grant reports
Grant and Fund Management:
  • Oversee grant accounting and ensure compliance with grant agreements and reporting requirements
  • Monitor and report on the financial performance of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Collaborate with program managers to develop grant budgets and financial reports
Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and achievable budgets
  • As a Controller, you will monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to the leadership team
  • Conduct financial forecasting to support strategic planning and decision-making
Team Leadership:
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork and continuous improvement
Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including IRS regulations for non-profits
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Nonprofit experience is required
  • Must have experience in multiple functions of Accounting not just siloed into AR/AP, etc.
  • Someone who is a thoughtful strategic partner to the CFO
  • Credit card processing, financial aide; Month end close, 990, treasury and cash management; Accounting background and interest in becoming a senior partner; Journal entry approvals; Bank reconciliation
  • Compliance experience in terms of being a strategic partner
  • Someone who is comfortable communicating to different business groups, feels confident in their own voice, someone who is a straight shooter and can directly speak
  • Growth mindset -> step into the CFO role themselves eventually
  • Continuous improvement mindset and providing fresh new ideas
  • CPA is preferred
  • Financial Modeling is a plus but not required
  • School experience is a plus but not required

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.

Note: Pay is not considered compensation until it is earned, vested and determinable. The amount and availability of any compensation remains in Kforce's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified in its discretion consistent with the law.
