Job Description

Stepan is seeking an Advanced Formulation Services (AFS) Operations Lead to join our Agriculture R&D team in Northfield, IL. In this role, you will report to the North American Agriculture Technical Director. The AFS Operations Lead manages the formulation services contract research program for the Stepan Global Agriculture Business.

The AFS Operations Lead is responsible for delivering project results and revenue targets on time and for developing a robust project pipeline.

This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders as well as with customers, suppliers, and research organizations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive project execution and meet deliverables around formulation development, analytical testing, microbiology support, or other contracted research activities
  • Provide timely and accurate communication to customers and Stepan leadership regarding project progress, delays, opportunities, etc.
  • Manage budget for AFS program; track expenditures, project/pipeline values, and sale of Stepan inerts where applicable
  • Contribute to Statement of Work creation with Subject Matter Experts and AFS Commercial Lead
  • Foster collaborative customer relationships; mentor and guide research staff to create and maintain a productive laboratory environment
  • Work with R&D departmental managers to identify and assign project resources and deliver timely results; influence indirect resources
  • Coordinate with corporate teams (legal, procurement, supply chain, regulatory, etc) for support based on project needs
Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a commercial scientific organization; experience with Agricultural formulations, products or applications a benefit
  • Proven demonstration of business acumen related to a for-profit commercial organization
  • Project Management experience minimum, PMP or relatable certifications preferred
  • Ability to travel domestically and potentially internationally, anticipated travel up to 25%
  • Accessibility outside standard North America business hours to support global customers
Education

  • Technical background with Master's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Agronomy, or related science required; PhD preferred
