Summary:
Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in conducting credit investigations and collecting delinquent accounts of customers by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
(Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Assesses creditworthiness of new and existing customers by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant information to establish credit limits.
  • Monitors customer accounts and communicates with customers to resolve payment issues and disputes, negotiate payment plans, and ensure payments are made on time and in accordance with the established terms.
  • Collaborates with Sales and Finance teams to optimize credit processes and facilitate sales growth and cash flow.
  • Proactively requests updated information and makes recommendations on potential credit risks
  • Arranges security instruments:
    Letters of Credit, Guarantees, and UCC filings.
  • Implements appropriate steps to collect delinquent accounts, including holding of shipment, 3rd party collections, legal suit, etc. as required.
  • Reviews doubtful accounts to determine collectability or need to be written off.
  • Assists management in the formulation of credit policies.
  • Identifies and champions business process improvement to support the credit function
  • Manages job performance, training, mentoring and coaching of one or more Credit Assistants and/or Senior Credit Assistants.

  • Strong knowledge of credit risk assessment and credit evaluation techniques
  • Strong understanding of financial statement and advanced liquidity analysis
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and compliance
  • Professional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
  • Detail oriented with superior organizational and time management skills
  • A positive approach in working with customers, Sales, and other teams
Education:

Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) from four-year college or university with courses in credit and collection principles, accounting, financial statement analysis, commercial law, microcomputers, marketing, management, psychology and economics.

Experience:

10 years or more in credit and collection work with exposure to multiple aspects of credit activities, including at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity in the same or similar industry. Sincere interest in credit work as a career. Fact finding, analysis and interpretation of the financial position of customers. Supervision of the extension of credit and collection of receivables. Familiarity with credit procedure and credit department administration. Training of credit personnel. Maintenance of satisfactory customer relations. Contact financial institutions and sources of credit information. Participation in meetings of credit groups.
Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Consideration and fairness in dealing with people. Emotional stability in handling unpleasant situations with tact and diplomacy.
Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Financial statement analysis is also required.
Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply sound credit principles while recognizing the need for sales volume. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a knowledge of accounting software; Microsoft Excel and Word experience also required. Experience in client server-based software, i.e. PeopleSoft or SAP, etc., and experience in running queries are also required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Some travel by car and airplane may also be required.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
