Position Summary:

The Senior Manager of Wholesale Credit Risk is responsible for overseeing and evaluating a diverse portfolio of client credit exposures across various industry sectors. This role involves assessing credit applications, including new requests, renewals, and modifications, serving as the primary credit authority within the first line of defense. The position requires recommending credit structures and providing constructive feedback to ensure the quality and profitability of the assigned portfolio while adhering to the Wholesale risk philosophy and lending strategies. This role also acts as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring high levels of responsiveness and service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with bankers and other teams to fulfill client credit requests while balancing the company's risk-return objectives. Continuously monitor the portfolio to accurately assign risk ratings to clients and facilities, ensuring all documentation is complete and precise.
  • Conduct thorough analyses and structuring of credit requests for both clients and prospects. Develop comprehensive client assessments through in-depth financial data analysis and other relevant information. Perform projection modeling, stress testing, and additional analyses utilizing a wide range of research sources.
  • Evaluate deal strengths, weaknesses, and associated risk factors. Establish risk ratings for transactions and correlate exposure levels as part of client strategy discussions. Prepare and coordinate memos based on these evaluations.
  • Facilitate all credit-related approvals to enhance risk management, client service, and revenue generation, which may include approvals for derivatives, p-cards, treasury services, and letters of credit.
  • Engage with deal teams at agent banks regarding buy-side syndicated transactions and collaborate with participating banks on multi-bank deals led by Synovus.
  • Coordinate with bankers, agent bank officers, and legal counsel regarding loan documentation and the closing process for new and amended credit facilities, ensuring compliance with loan approvals.
  • Interface with the Wholesale loan operations team to ensure the proper booking of new and amended deals, waivers, and modifications, providing all necessary documentation for the closing process.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with regulatory and company policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of the credit relationship, including exposure, compliance, potential issues, and opportunities. Communicate any concerns to bankers and interact with clients as necessary.
  • Act as a primary client contact responsible for collecting required client reporting. Monitor existing client credit on a daily basis for any issues or concerns, conducting periodic credit servicing in collaboration with Wholesale Credit Risk Analysts.
  • Initiate discussions with bankers to ensure clients are performing positively and able to meet their obligations, notifying bankers of any performance deterioration. Provide periodic reporting and servicing.
  • Manage the flow of financial reporting and client compliance with covenants by monitoring tickler and exception reports.
  • Prepare responses for internal and external regulatory examinations, addressing examiner inquiries and requests for information regarding the assigned portfolio. Participate in cross-selling efforts and special projects while providing guidance to Wholesale Credit Risk Analysts.
  • Deliver a comprehensive approach to reviewing ratings, risk assessments, portfolios, clients, and industries within the assigned sector. Prepare and present quarterly and annual risk reviews and tiering analyses, assigning risk ratings and maintaining updated credit research on the client portfolio.
  • Mentor and develop Analysts and junior team members, fostering innovation and continuous improvement in efficiency.
  • All team members are expected to be vigilant regarding risk within their functional area, adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and risk limits. Any known or suspected violations should be reported to the appropriate company authority promptly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Wholesale Credit Risk Manager I or six years of credit analysis or commercial banking experience, including exposure to corporate banking, middle market, or commercial real estate sectors.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • In-depth understanding of risk management and credit mitigants.
  • Knowledge of risk ratings analysis, corporate finance, and research methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Exceptional client service and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient relationship-building skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel modeling.
  • Familiarity with Moody's analytics is preferred.
