ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Director of Animal Services in the development and implementation of community outreach, engagement, and communication. Develops relationships with community organizations including faith-based organizations, civic, and neighborhood groups. Collaborates with community organizations in educating the public about responsible pet care and available resources. Maintains Memphis Animal Shelter's (MAS) visual branding and presentations. Evaluates and implements facility signage and informational materials as needed to keep all branding consistent. Creates invitations, flyers, brochures and other MAS communication publications. Attends community functions, meetings, and events by driving to various locations throughout the City. Assesses community needs by gathering useful statistics. Develops and implements communications and community engagement plans for social media and website content. Collaborates with the Communications department to ensure all media communications are consistent. Researches and responds to community inquiries and complaints. Writes media alerts, news releases, and pitches to involve media in MAS's work. Maintains and updates the MAS portion of the City's website and communication outlets. Supervises the media and online presence on social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Nextdoor, Tiktok and other similar community sites to ensure content information is updated. Collaborates with cross-functional service centers in developing marketing and communication plans to increase awareness of updates and social media offerings. Completes grant applications and collects the necessary material as needed. Keeps abreast of available grants and federal, state, and local legislation that may impact grant funding. Monitors the budgeting and grant funds for the division's marketing section. Develops promotions for various programs such as adoptions and fostering programs. Interacts by communicating verbally and in writing with general public, community organizations and staff on a variety of issues and concerns through social media. Uses social media to promote MAS activities and events. Represents MAS in television and print interviews as needed.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer, radio, scanner/copier, and telephone. Requires the ability to operate an automobile. Requires the ability to lift and carry materials (approx. 30 lbs.).

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Requires travel to other site locations throughout the city.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or closely related field and five (5) years' experience in social media marketing and communication; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have experience using software programs including Microsoft Office applications, desktop publishing, and some graphics software. Must possess and maintain valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.
